Dr Rajashri Tayshete Bhasale, Consultant Gynecologist & Obstetrician, Laparoscopic Surgeon, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road said, “On arrival she was pale, agitated and complained of distention of abdomen but there was no weight loss and her menses were normal. On examination her abdomen was distended upto xiphisternum with Huge cystic mass of size 25cm x 25cm. Her per vaginal examination revealed 12 weeks size fibroid uterus and mass in the right adnexa extending into abdomen. Ultrasonography reports also showed a mass of 25×25 cm cystic mass with Multiple uterine Fibroids. She was scheduled to undergo a Total abdominal Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salphingoophorectomy was done under general Anaesthesia on August 12. We planned the surgery in a systematic way. Her Hemoglobin was 7 gm%, received 2 points PCV and was then advised to undergo surgery.”

Dr Rajashri added, “Surgery was done with the smallest possible incision. Challenge was to take out mass intact without spilling contains or rupturing mass. Uterus removal surgery with cyst removal was done. Huge Ovarian Cystadenoma of 25cm x 15 cm removed along with a 12 weeks size uterus. The post-operative period was uneventful, and the patient was discharged on the 3rd day of surgery. Final Histopath diagnosis was Mucinous Cystadenoma & Leiomyoma uterus. Such a huge mass is a result of lack of knowledge and lack of routine examination which every woman should undergo after 30 years”.

“I was shocked when I came to know about the diagnosis of the huge cyst and multiple fibroids. They were growing in my body for the last 4 months while I didn’t have any idea about it. There was abdominal distress, I looked bloated and avoided stepping out of the house. I tried various home remedies such as herbal teas, hing water, exercising, and even probiotics. But nothing seemed to help me. I thank the doctors at Wockhardt Hospitals for their prompt treatment. I am relieved, happy, and will resume teaching now,” concluded the patient Mrs. Pandey.
