60+ NGOs from 21 states to attend the Delhi Conclave on nationwide campaign for Body-Organ-Eye Donation

On completion of 25 years of dedicated services towards humane causes, Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti (Dadhichi), a renowned NGO, will organise a nationwide campaign aiming at spreading awareness and execution for Body-Organ-Eye Donation in the country. Dadhichi formally announced the campaign in a press meet at the Malviya Bhawan, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, New Delhi on 23 August. The occasion was graced by the presence of Advocate Alok Kumar (Patron of DDDS) and Mr Harsh Malhotra (President of DDDS) and many eminent people from the media and medical fraternity.

The day-long conclave shall be held in Delhi on Saturday, 3rd September 2022 at NDMC Convention Centre. It will conclude with a Sammelan at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre on Sunday, 4th September 2022. Dadhichi has invited Hon’ble Vice President of India to address the Sammelan. Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati of Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh has also kindly consented to address this Sammelan.

Some 60+ NGOs and important stakeholders and associations in the health sector, including Mohan Foundation, Organ India, Indian Medical Association, NOTTO, ORBO, National Eye Bank, Amma Eye-Organ-Body Donation Promoters Organisation, The Federation of Organ and Body Donation, Eye Bank Association of India and others have consented to participate.

The Central Ministers Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi, Ms. Bharati Praveen Panwar, former Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Shri Sushil Modi have also consented to participate. Shri Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Health and Shri Atul Goel, DGHS, Bharat will also address the Conclave.

Dadhichi expects that this Conclave shall consider and give rise to the massive nationwide campaign for popularizing the cause of Body-Organ-Tissue Donation.

“Formed in 1997, Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti has been the torch-bearer in spreading awareness on Body-Organ donations. Our primary aim is to make people realize how the donated body/organs of a deceased/donor can be life-saving for persons in dire need. Over 300 volunteers of our Samiti take each step with the utmost delicacy and ensure a smooth process of donation without any hassles to the donor family” said, Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti Patron Alok Kumar, Sr. Advocate.

Kumar further added that the Samiti plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the donor’s family and the government hospitals and medical colleges, who can use the donated body organs for research and in medical emergencies. “Till now more than 17 thousand donors have given their consent towards the virtuous cause of body organ donation. Over the last 25 years, Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti has facilitated 353 body donation, 870 pairs of eye donations, six organ donations, two bone donations and three skin donations said Alok Kumar.

“India is far behind other developing countries in terms of organ donation despite having one of the largest populations. Major reasons behind this can be the lack of public awareness, religious taboos, and complicated laws and apathetic government structure. It is our firm belief that through this campaign, we will achieve our target to encourage more and more people towards body-organ-eye donation,” noted President of Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti Harsh Malhotra.

Note to the Editor

Driving inspiration from Maharshi Dadhichi, the “Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti” has been functioning in Delhi and National Capital Region since 1997 and spreading awareness about body-organ-eyes-stem cell donation and encouraging people to resolve to donate their organs before they leave this world. The organization works towards urging the masses to take a step closer to helping others. Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti understands the sensitivity of everything that surrounds the process of organ donation. This is why the volunteers take each step with the utmost delicacy and make sure that no trouble is caused to the family members of the donor or the receiver.
