The ‘Foundation Day’ of Asset Management Society India (AMSI) was celebrated online on Monday 17 th January 2022. Shri Devendra Kumar Singh, Secretary, Union Ministry of Co-operation, was the Chief Guest. Shri Devendra Kumar Singh is a Kerala cadre IAS officer and has vast experience in state and central government administration. He has held a number of important assignments in the State of Kerala and while on central government deputation held important portfolios in the Ministry of Home Affairs (1999- 2004) & Ministry of Commerce (Foreign Trade).

Shri Singh shared that the cooperative society movement in India started much before 1904, when the first legislation for cooperatives came into force. He said that there are 9.6 lakhs co-operatives with approximately 10 crores members. He stressed the need for a scientific approach that will have a great impact on the cooperative sector. He said the ministry will work towards bringing prosperity through the co-operative sector ‘Sahakar Se Samruddhi’, which he said is important in keeping the sustainable development goals impacting- people, planet and livelihood. He was very appreciative of the initiative taken to form the Asset Management Society and stressed the importance of assets and how they can be managed better in the rural sector with the help of the expertise available with the society. He also mentioned that the ministry is yet to identify 500 cooperatives for which business plans are to be developed with the help of IIMs IITs and NITs. Shri Devendra Kumar Singh launched the new website www.amsi.net.in of AMSI.
