CM of Sikkim pays homage to renowned Nepali poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya on Bhanu Jayanti

New Delhi, July 15: The 208th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya or the Bhanu Jayanti was celebrated with great fervour in the state of Sikkim today.

In the state capital Gangtok, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang participated in the day long celebratory functions. The first part of the state level celebration began with the garlanding of the statue of Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya at Bhanu Udhyan, Gangtok today.

An added feature of the Celebration was the re-developed Bhanu Udhyan, which was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. The entire complex around the life size statue of Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya was remodelled and beautified with a permanent roof and other aesthetics with a large seating capacity. The work was executed by the Building and Housing Department.

A maple tree and other ornamental plants in the complex added to the beauty of the place. The Chief Minister also planted a sapling of Maple near the statue to mark the occasion.

The Chief Minister and the dignitaries offered their tribute to the eminent scholar by garlanding the statue.

After the programme at Bhanu Udhyan, the Chief Minister, dignitaries and invitees participated in the ‘Shova Yatra’ which began from Bhanu Udhyan and culminated at Titanic Park in M.G. Marg. The ‘Shova Yatra’ comprised of cultural tableau depicting the day’s theme, which was participated by students and members of various communities, associations and organizations.

In the second part of the day long programme, awards, literary deliberations and cultural presentations marked the State-Level Celebration.

On the occasion, noted litterateur K.N. Sharma was decorated with the prestigious ‘Bhanu Purashkar 2022’. Likewise, former Member of Parliament and litterateur Dil Kumari Bhandari was awarded the ‘Bhanu Purashkar’ for the year 2021. The programme also saw awards and felicitations to individuals who have made notable contributions to language, literature, art and culture.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in his address paid rich tribute to Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya on his birth anniversary. He stressed on the need to preserve local culture, language, customs and attire.

Organised by the Celebration Committee under Nepali Sahitya Parishad and presided over by Tourism Minister B.S. Panth, the function had the presence and participation of the Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, MP Lok Sabha, other dignitaries, special invitees from different parts of the country and Nepal, researchers, language experts, students and representatives of various associations and organisations.
