CM OF SIKKIM PS TAMANG EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO THE DOCTORS FOR SELFLESS SERVICE ON NATIONAL DOCTOR’S DAY

New Delhi, July 01: Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang attended the National Doctors Day function at the state STNM Hospital today.

National Doctors Day is observed each year on the 1st of July in honour of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, an exemplary doctor who was also the second Chief Minister of West Bengal. On this day, doctors are acknowledged for their selfless service to society.

The theme for this year’s Doctors Day was ‘Family Doctors on the Front Line’.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister in his address extended his warm greetings to all the doctors in the State and throughout the country.

Highlighting the significance of the day, the Chief Minister paid his respects to Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy who epitomised the profession of a doctor.

He reiterated the importance laid by the State Government on the health sector. He acknowledged the role of all the doctors and health workers for working relentlessly to realise the vision of the Government. He recorded his appreciation for the effort of the medical fraternity in the State as a result of which even people from neighbouring regions are benefiting from the services.

He added that the Government has ensured that there is adequate annual budget allocation for the health sector for upgradation of the existing health facilitates and for creation of new infrastructure.

The Chief Minister announced that the Government will prepare to place the Bill for protection of doctors and medical staff on duty in the upcoming Assembly Session. He was responding to a demand placed by the Sikkim Government Doctors Welfare Association.

The Chief Minister also assured that all the demands placed by doctors of various disciplines earlier in the programme will be looked into.

The Chief Minister also announced that the Government will provide an ambulance each in all Government colleges in the State.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang was presented a souvenir prepared by the doctors of STNM Hospital.
