New Delhi, December 21: Sikkim’s Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang joined the other members of the North East Council including the Governors and Chief Ministers of all North-East states for the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji in Shillong, Meghalaya.
In his speech, PM Narendra Modi reiterated that the Northeast region is the Ashtalakshmi of India and congratulated the NEC for its remarkable journey and attaining the milestone.
NEC is continuously making significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the NE region, which, under the administrative purview of the Ministry of DoNER has brought tremendous development. In this perspective, the Act East Policy and PMDevINE have been a pivot in transforming the NE Region.
CM Tamang shared that unprecedented development and positive rejuvenation have taken place under the dynamic leadership of the PM and in the last eight years, a wave of multifaceted development can be seen in the northeastern region in the time gap of the completion of 75 years of independence.
In the presence of a large gathering of approximately 10,000 people in a public meeting, PM Modi inaugurated some important projects of the Region including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong, dedicated 4G towers of Meghalaya, NEC projects, and Meghalaya state projects. He also laid the foundation stones for some upcoming projects.
The Jubilee is expected to provide a new platform for the NEC to deliver even better in the days to come, and to spearhead more development initiatives as it has done effectively in the last five decades across the 8 NE states.
