Bangalore, May 02, 2023 – Emeritus, the global leader in making high-quality education accessible and affordable to individuals, companies and governments around the world, today announced that CEO and co-founder Ashwin Damera was named the winner in the “Global Leader” category in the 2023 EdTech Awards. Damera was awarded for his vision and ongoing work to break down barriers around the globe to make education accessible. Emeritus was also recognized as a finalist in the “Edtech Company Setting a Trend” and “Higher Education Solution” categories.

Celebrating its 13th year, the US-based program is the world’s largest recognition program for education technology, recognizing the biggest names in edtech – and those who soon will be.

“A very big congratulations to all The EdTech Awards 2023 finalists and winners—and congratulations to all who endured the upheavals of the last few years only to come through stronger, more experienced, resilient, and resolute in laying out the future of learning,” said Victor Rivero, who as Editor-in-Chief of EdTech Digest, oversees the program.

“It’s far from perfect—but across K-12, higher education, and workforce learning sectors—an accelerated digital transformation has left in its wake hybrid schools, rapidly changing post-secondary models, and an increasingly remote-based workforce,” Rivero said. “The world has truly changed—and we will never be the same again.”

The EdTech Awards recognize people for outstanding contributions in transforming education through technology to enrich the lives of learners everywhere. This year’s finalists and winners were narrowed from the larger field and judged based on various criteria, including: pedagogical workability, efficacy and results, support, clarity, value and potential.

Emeritus currently serves 300,000+ learners, providing access to 300+ courses and programs through 80+ university partnerships, with 15% of students learning in languages other than English, and with 33% of courses translated into multiple languages. In a 2022 survey of Emeritus learners, 94% reported a positive impact on their careers and 91% reported a positive impact on their business or organization.

“It’s an honor to be named the winner in the ‘Global Leader’ category for The EdTech Awards,” said Damera. “This recognition is truly for our entire team, who work tirelessly to make high-quality education accessible to all, and I am humbled that we have been recognized for our impact. At Emeritus, we believe that education has the power to transform lives and we’re constantly creating innovative programs to empower learners around the world ”

Featuring edtech’s best and brightest, the annual program shines a spotlight on cool tools, inspiring leaders and innovative trendsetters across the K-12, higher education, and skills and workforce sectors.
