GITAM & University of Melbourne to Offer Joint B.Sc. Programme

GITAM students to attend part of the programme in Melbourne, Australia under the dual degree scheme

Option to be directly accepted into University of Melbourne’s Postgraduate programme

Hyderabad, March 2023: The University of Melbourne and GITAM (Deemed to be University) — a NAAC A++ accredited university — have entered into a partnership to offer Indian students a Bachelor of Science dual degree.

The Bachelor of Science (dual degree) is a four-year degree in which higher education institutions in India deliver an innovative science curriculum jointly with the University of Melbourne. The students who have enrolled in the programme will spend the first two years studying in India, followed by the next two years on campus in Melbourne. Upon completion, Indian students will be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from GITAM University and the University of Melbourne. In addition, students can directly enrol in Melbourne’s Master’s program in different disciplines.

Prof Duncan Maskell, Vice Chancellor of the University of Melbourne, formally announced the launch of this dual degree program, during a delegation visit with the Prime Minister of Australia’s Trade Delegation to India. Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell was present at the event. “At the University of Melbourne, we are delighted to continue expanding our programmes to give more Indian students direct pathways to complete their studies,” said Maskell. “With demand for our existing programmes continuing to grow, we’re pleased to be working together with prestigious local universities to be part of the internationalisation of education in India and at home in Australia.”

Professor Dayananda Siddavattam, vice chancellor of the GITAM (deemed to be University), said, “In partnership with the University of Melbourne, the Bachelor of Science Joint Degree will educate and empower our next generation of scientists and leaders in Science Education. These students will have access to the best opportunities available at home in India at GITAM, and then expand their horizons by studying at the University of Melbourne. This is part of our ambition to transform education and develop our students into successful global citizens”.
