SIKKIM CM EXTENDS SUPPORT TO EX-SERVICEMEN, VEER NAARIS

New Delhi, July 25: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced Annual Grant – in – Aid of Rs. 10 lakhs to the Association for the establishment of Sainik Welfare Board and assistance in referral treatment to Ex- servicemen and Veer Naaris.

The announcement was made during his speech at Ex- servicemen Milan- a programme organized by Sikkim Veer Gorkha Ex- servicemen Welfare Association at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok.

The Ex-Servicemen Milan is a pioneering event in the state conducted with the primary aim of recognising the unwavering dedication exhibited by the Indian Armed forces including Army, Navy, Air Force, and Para Military Forces.

CM Tamang assured to look into the demands placed earlier by the ex-servicemen of a War Memorial, reservation in higher studies for children of ex – servicemen, 200 units of free electricity, Memorial Park in Singtam Bazaar, allotment of permanent space for Association and Sainik Bhawan in Namchi.

The Chief Minister also declared that the state government will be holding a State Level Celebration of Haritalika Teej Festival on 18th September, 2023.

Furthermore, Chief Minister paid rich tributes to the Ex- servicemen and Veer Naaris for their invaluable contributions in safeguarding the nation.

Chief Minister spoke at length about the service and sacrifices made by Army being away from their family and loved ones in border ensuring sound night’s sleep to the people. “We need to draw lessons from their patriotism, sacrifice and discipline and practice the same in our lives,” said the Chief Minister adding that the state government is always there for the welfare of ex – servicemen and veer naaris. Applauding the noble contributions made by Ex- servicemen during Covid -19 pandemic, the Chief Minister hailed them as priceless asset of the state and country. He called on the Ex- servicemen to bring into use their vast experience for the development and progress of the State.

Expressing his concern over Sikkimese youths opting for ‘One Family One Job’ overlooking immense opportunities available in Army, he urged the ex- servicemen to motivate the youths towards joining Army. “If we could send at least one member from one Sikkimese family to Army, then it will be our biggest contributions to the nation,” said Chief Minister.

He further said that Sikkim is the only State which celebrates Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti and Republic Day as festivals statewide, this reflects Sikkim’s love for the country and patriotic feeling among the Sikkimese people.

The programme included the felicitation of Ex-servicemen and Veer Naaris, honouring both the personnel and their family members for their significant contributions.
