“The Astounding Father-Son Duo – Ustad Ghulam Siraj Niazi & Mehdi Hasan Niazi to be Back on Tour”

After having given an inimitable and noteworthy performance at The Consulate General of India, Hong Kong & Padmabhushan Ustad Mushtaq Husain Khan Association (PUMHKA)’s “SAMMAAN” – A Tribute to Late Ustad Ghulam Husain Khan, as a part of the Indian government’s prestigious Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, last year, 2021, in the month of late November at one of the most renowned venues of Hong Kong – Hong Kong City Hall, the father-son duo of Ustad Ghulam Siraj Niazi and Mehdi Hasan Niazi are planning to be back in the air and begin their tour of chain of concerts.

 

Both Ustad Ghulam Siraj Niazi, the Chairman of PUMHKA himself and son of late Ustad Ghulam Husain Khan, and Mehdi Hasan Niazi, grandson of late Ustad Ghulam Husain Khan, upon being asked countless of times by their listeners on social media regarding their due India tour that they had planned and scheduled for mid-2020, but had to postpone it due to the COVID-19 pandemic and unprecedented events, have announced that they are aiming to finally fly off to India and begin their tour during the time of summer.

 

As per Mehdi Hasan Niazi’s announcement on his Instagram and Facebook stories, the tour will consist of many cities with performances on “prestigious platforms”. One of Mehdi Hasan Niazi’s stories also mentioned that a lot of music projects with him and his father and some of his solo ones will be under the works during their time in India. On the other hand, in one of Ustad Ghulam Siraj Niazi’s recent interviews for an e-magazine, he said that him and the entire team of his organisation, PUMHKA are working very hard behind closed curtains and that he will be setting grounds for “PUMHKA organising future grand concerts in India, in collaboration with very well known organisations” while he is in India for the tour.

Biography of Ustad Ghulam Siraj Niazi:

 

Ustad Ghulam Siraj Niazi belongs to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana and is the grandson of late Padma Bhushan Ustad Mushtaq Hussain Khan (first recipient of the Padma Bhushan and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award), and the son of late Ustad Ghulam Husain Khan.

Initiated into music from the age of nine years, Ustad Ghulam Siraj Niazi was trained under the worthy guidance of his father, who passed all the major qualities of the Gharana to him in the typical traditional style of Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana.

He’s been based in Hong Kong for over two decades. Ustad Ghulam Siraj Niazi is also the Chairman of Padmabhushan Ustad Mushtaq Husain Khan Association (PUMHKA). PUMHKA also runs an academy in Hong Kong named; “Ustad Ghulam Husain Khan Academy”.

 

Biography of Mehdi Hasan Niazi:

 

Mehdi Hasan Niazi is an Indian classical & light vocalist, songwriter, and composer, and he belongs to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. He is the son of Ustad Ghulam Siraj Niazi, grandson of late Ustad Ghulam Husain Khan, and maternal grandson of late Padma Shri Ustad Ghulam Sadiq Khan.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Mehdi Hasan Niazi started his music training at the age of 7 from his grandfather, late Ustad Ghulam Husain Khan. After the demise of his grandfather, he continued his training under the guidance of his father and his maternal grandfather.

Throughout his musical journey, he has shared the stage and performed with many legends and eminent artists.
