Vedanta’s VAB supports nationwide Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (PMTBBA)

– Vedanta’s Value-Added Business (VAB) has pledged to be a ‘Ni-Kshay Mitra’ to support 50 TB patients with monthly nutritional basket for next one year.

Goa, 17th October 2022: Vedanta’s Value-Added Business (VAB)has come forward to support Govt. of India’s nationwide mission, that is Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (PMTBBA) which aims at eradicating TB from India by 2025. To partner in this mission Vedanta-VAB has pledged to be a ‘Ni-Kshay Mitra’ to support 50 TB patients with monthly nutritional baskets fornext one year. To initiate this drive, Mr. Saptesh Sardesai, CEO-Value Added Business (VAB), Vedanta Ltd, handed over 50 nutritional baskets for the TB patients at Community Health Centre (CHC), Sanquelim to Dr Atul Paibir, Medical Officer Incharge- CHC, Sanquelim. Dr Abel D’Costa, Chief Medical Officer, Iron Ore Business, Vedanta Ltd, and other representatives from Vedanta-VAB & CHC- Sanquelim were also present.

Under PMTBBA, being a ‘NI-kshay Mitra’, institutions across the nation can play a critical role in filling gaps and addressing social determinants, thereby contributing to achieve the national goal of TB Mukt Bharat. Health has been one of the major thrust areas of Vedanta’s community development programs, and the company has implemented several health initiatives such as Community Medical centres, Mobile Health Units (MHU’s) and specialized health check-up camps for the communities etc.

Mr. Sujal Shah, CEO- VAP, Vedanta Limited applauded this initiative and said “TB is one of the serious health issues that causes large number of deaths in India. Happy to partner with this nationwide campaign, which is a mass movement for awareness and prevention of TB. “ At the handing over ceremony, Dr. Atul Paibir, Medical Officer In charge- Community Health Centre, Sanquelim said that “Vedanta has been constantly supporting us with whatever help is required. Pandemic times have shown us that we all need to come together and have to work in synchronisation and complement each other’s efforts. I thank Vedanta for this nutritional basket support, which will help us to move strongly and achieve the aspiration of a TB free India by 2025.”

Vedanta’s Sesa Goa has implemented several health developments programmes for the communities in and around its operational areas. During the covid-19 pandemic, the company established 100 bedded medical infrastructure at Goa Medical college & Hospital, supplied free liquid medical oxygen, oxygen concentrators, masks, sanitizers, etc. to support the Goa Government. It also regularly organises specialised health camps in the community to provide quality health facilities.
