Vicky Roy and Saina Munjal co-create “Sapno ki Udaan”

A photographic exhibition to Support Salaam Baalak Trust in collaboration with Vadehra Art Gallery

New Delhi, 17 August 2023: The Vadehra Art Gallery, recently played host to an inspiring photography exhibition titled “Sapno ki Udaan.” Curated by the talented and renowned photographer Vicky Roy along with Saina Munjal.

Vicky is a Forbes 30 under 30 Asia recipient and Saina is a student of photography in grade 12 in Malvern College, UK. Needless to say, an exhibition by young artists organized for supporting a secure future for numerous young children is bound to be reflective of emotion and purpose. The exhibition has been curated to lend a helping hand to the remarkable and relentless work of the Salaam Baalak Trust. This trust is devoted to illuminating the invaluable efforts of shelter homes and their role in providing opportunities to the resilient street children of our society.

The exhibition, a journey of visual storytelling, featured an impressive array of photographs. There were 34 captivating images on display, each capturing a moment in the lives of street children. Vicky Roy’s lens, alongside the creative perspectives of Sanjay Kumar and Rasil Khan, beautifully explores the very souls of the vulnerable children on the streets. Their candid shots paint a vivid canvas of emotions, struggles, and unwavering courage etched onto the faces of these young souls. Every portrait serves as a powerful window into their unique stories, shedding light on the challenges they face and the incredible resilience they exhibit in the face of adversity.

Speaking about the exhibition Vicky Roy said “Photography has the unique ability to capture raw emotions and untold stories. ‘Sapno ki Udaan’ delves into the world of street children, unveiling their strength amid adversity. Through these candid frames, we unveil not only their struggles but also their dreams. The Salaam Baalak Trust is my home, my alma mater and it is in a way my duty and privilege to be able to give back through an art form that has made me who I am.”

Artist Sanjay Kumar said “Capturing the unfiltered reality of young children’s lives has been a humbling experience. ‘Sapno ki Udaan’ reveals the stories that often go unnoticed.”

In contrast, Saina Munjal’s work depicted a transformative journey, symbolizing the support extended by the Salaam Baalak Trust. The significance of education and nurturing was highlighted, underscoring the trust’s pivotal role in shaping young lives. Saina’s short film highlights compassionate care, moments of hope and dreams beyond imagination, the healing power of creativity, and uplifting success stories.

Speaking about the exhibition Saina Munjal said, “Sapno ki Udaan has been a deeply meaningful journey for me as an artist. Through my lens and film, I have endeavored to showcase the transformation and hope that the Salaam Baalak Trust brings to the lives of street children. Their resilience and dreams inspire me every day. This exhibition is a tribute to their courage and the power of nurturing. Artist Rasil Khan said, “In every fleeting expression and candid moment, ‘Sapno ki Udaan’ speaks volumes about the courage and strength of street children. As an artist, I aimed to amplify their unheard voices through my lens”.

The “Sapno ki Udaan” exhibition not only celebrated the art of photography but also brought to the forefront the indomitable spirit of street children and the invaluable role played by the Salaam Baalak Trust in shaping their futures.
