Mumbai 8thJune 2022: This week all roads are all set to lead to the corridors of Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai to view not just the brilliant collection of paper collage paintings but also the world’s largest paper collage painting by renowned collage artist Uma Sharma from Mathura. The ongoing week-long exhibition of religiously inspired paper collage artworks titled ‘Kaagaz Ki Zubaani’ at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai will be held from 7th June to 13th June. The grand show showcasing 80+ works from smallest to largest collage works will be inaugurated in the presence of several distinguished guests and art lovers.
Uma Sharma, one of the finest Indian contemporary artist and an art aducator practicing her passion in paper collages. Internationally known, Masters in Fine Arts (paintings) from SNDT College, Mumbai, a multifaceted artist Uma Sharma, based in Mathura, has many accolades to her credit. She has been conferred with the prestigious India Book of Records Award, VishishtKalakar Samman, Brij Vibhuti Samman, VishishtShilp, Uttar Pradesh State Award among many others in the same genre. Many solo exhibitions, workshops and group participations are moments of pride in her five decades long artistic journey.
“The paper collages create an impressive array softly and brilliantly treated by on canvas and on the board as well” says the artist, Uma Sharma. “My paintings are intimate conversations with paper deliberately means using No Paint, No Brush! This is the confidence, which I enjoy in my paintings, the forms and the patterns beyond its borders”.
She further adds, “My paintings, most of them realistic, depict life in villages, at ghaats and temples mainly focussing on a joyful journey of our lives! I have a soft corner for nature and religion which shows in my various works. All this in one can be viewed in a big-sized paper collage made by me which has also been acknowledged by Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest paper collage”. Painting titled “Chunrimahotsav at Yamuna” is the largest on display at 179 x 59 inches, besides this some of the interesting paintings on display are, Twelve Birds, Phoolwali, City Scape II, Morning at Ganga Ghaat, Hut in Village, AanganVriksha, Krishna, Sai Baba, and many more.
The collage paintings will remain on display till 13th June 2022, 11 am to 7pm daily.
Her works are in proud collection of many art lovers from Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Mathura, Agra, UK, Germany, St. Petersburg, London and Dubai.
