55 Government school students of Sikkim awarded free scholarships by CM to study in reputed Public Schools in India

New Delhi, Feb 24: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the Counselling-cum-Allotment of seats (2023) for the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme programme, organized by the Education Department, Government of Sikkim in Gangtok.

The Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme is a unique educational scheme of the state government that was initiated to cater to Sikkimese students studying in Government schools. A total number of fifty-five students from across the state received scholarships under this scheme on Wednesday.

CM Tamang in his address stated that the Merit Awards will be a huge motivation for all other students in Sikkim to perform better in their academics. The Chief Minister informed that the State Government has increased the number of seats this time from 50 to 55 with an additional 5 seats for students from Dzongu area.

The Chief Minister briefed about the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Fellowship Scheme, introduced in honour of the former Chief Minister,that aims to provide opportunity for Sikkim’s brightest and most promising students to pursue higher studies in the top 20 Universities of the world.

He also informed about the APATAN scheme and the Arya Pratibha Vikas scheme, which provides support and guidance for those aspirants who plan to take the elite Union & State Government Services, and urged students to take benefit of such schemes. He also said that the state government has accorded topmost priority to the Education Sector with an appropriate allocation of budget to ensure that the students are well prepared to face challenge of the modern world and always serve their best.

During the programme, Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang awarded the top three schools with a sum of 5 lakhs, 3 lakhs and 2 lakhs respectively.

The certificate of appreciation was awarded to seven school heads whose students were ranked meritorious under the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Scheme 2023 by the Shri Prem Singh Tamang.

It may be mentioned that the State government had made a budgetary provision of one crore to support the education of thirty-three students who were evacuated from Ukraine. The Chief Minister handed a cheque of 3 lakhs each to those students on the occasion.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Education Minister, Advisor Education Department, various officers of the Education Department, Home Department, the heads of the empanelled schools, teachers, students of different schools along with the parents
