Bengaluru, January 20, 2025 – “Listing in India is more beneficial than listing in foreign markets due to the large size of the Indian market and the ease of compliance. Many Indian companies, including IT services companies, are listed in India despite having significant foreign income,” said Mr. Hitesh Oberoi, Co-Promoter, MD & CEO, Info Edge during a fireside chat with Mr. Madhusudanan R, Co-founder, M2P Fintech on “Roadmap to 100 Listed Digital Companies in India” at the 19th India Digital Summit (IDS) today.
The two-day summit is being organized by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, and is Supported by Digital India, Skill India and Make in India.
Mr. Oberoi advised companies to go public only when they have a stable and predictable operation, with a clear understanding of revenue and growth potential. He said, “The process of going public can take around 1-2 years, with a focus on building a strong finance department, compliance, and management team.” He emphasized the importance of being prepared for the scrutiny of public markets and the need for a stable setup to deliver consistent results.
Highlighting the evolution of India’s digital economy from the dot-com bust to the current state of a thriving ecosystem, Mr. Madhusudanan R said, “The smartphone revolution and 4G/5G penetration have contributed to the growth of internet users in India, with an estimated 7-800 billion users in a few years. The Indian government reports over 100,000 startups, with a VC ecosystem investing around $15-20 million annually.”
The speakers also discussed the importance of Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPS) in retaining employees and aligning their interests with those of the company. They concluded that the founders are increasingly open to allocating more to ESOPs, but it is still a founder-led effort rather than an investor-led one.
