No Mercy for Lawbreakers, Bulldozer Action Will Continue in Maharashtra: Fadnavis

Key highlights:

– Many political parties ready to support the Women’s Reservation Bill

Mumbai, June 2, 2026: Justifying the bulldozer action being carried out in Maharashtra, modeled on the ‘bulldozer culture’ of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that his state is governed by the law and that those who do not follow the law will be subjected to bulldozer action, and this will continue.

Mr. Fadnavis was expressing his views today at a program organized by NDTV Marathi Manch on the women’s empowerment of Maharashtra. Several women personalities who have made significant contributions in their respective fields shared their views on the topic of women’s empowerment and women’s health.

Mr. Fadnavis said that he doesn’t speak for any particular state, but in Maharashtra, where the rule of law prevails, if someone does something wrong or acts beyond the law, bulldozer action is taken against them. However, we have used the bulldozer after issuing a notice under the rules, not by targeting anyone. Anyone who does wrong will be prosecuted, and the bulldozer will continue to operate.

Speaking of women’s reservation, he said that women’s participation will not increase unless reservation is provided. Just like in education and employment, the Modi government tried to introduce the Nari Shakti Bill to increase the number of women in politics, but the opposition prevented its success.

He said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had provided a logical solution for the Nari Shakti Bill, but the opposition actually did not want it passed. However, after the massive defeat in the West Bengal elections, many parties in the country have realized that they cannot play politics by ignoring women. Many different political parties are now preparing to support it. It will be passed, and women’s reservation will be implemented in 2029. It is hoped that Maharashtra’s opposition parties will come to their senses and vote in support of this initiative.

Responding to allegations that the government excluded 8 million women from the Ladki Behen Yojana, the Chief Minister stated that it is the largest such scheme in any state in the country. “We haven’t excluded anyone,” he said. “There were several criteria for being eligible. We initiated KYC, but those who didn’t complete KYC were suspected. It was discovered that 14,000 men, 500,000 government employees, 1 million income tax payers, and 500,000 vehicle owners were excluded. Those who were ineligible and lacked KYC were blocked. The KYC of 2.5 million women was incorrect, so we corrected it. The government is ready to re-enact KYC, but ineligible individuals will not receive any money.”

Earlier in the morning session, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad faction) MP Supriya Sule said that we have never opposed the Nari Shakti Bill and will never oppose it in the future, but we object to the way the government first promised a 50% increase in Lok Sabha seats under delimitation and then broke that promise. She said that including women in the decision-making process defines social change, but now 1.25 crore women in Maharashtra have stopped receiving their money under the Ladki Behen Yojana, which is an injustice to them. Mrs. Sule also denied that the DMK is going to leave the Indi alliance and join the NDA.
