HLL signs MoU with West Bengal Government for 100 AMRIT Pharmacies

New Delhi, August 20, 2026: As part of its ongoing efforts to expand access to affordable healthcare, HLL Lifecare Limited (HLL), a Miniratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of West Bengal to establish 100 AMRIT Pharmacies across the State. Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment (AMRIT) is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, implemented by HLL since 2015.

The MoU was exchanged at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata, in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Union Minister Smt. Anupriya Patel and other dignitaries. Representing HLL, Shri Benny Joseph, Director (T&O), exchanged the MoU with Shri Narayan Nigam, IAS, Principal Secretary, Health, Government of West Bengal.

In West Bengal, six AMRIT Pharmacies are currently operational, including outlets at AIIMS Kalyani, Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute, Central Railway Hospital, Kolkata and Haldia Port Hospital. The proposed 100 pharmacies will be established in government-run healthcare facilities under the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal.

Launched with the objective of making quality medicines and healthcare products available at affordable prices, AMRIT has grown into a nationwide network serving patients through government and other public healthcare institutions. The first AMRIT Pharmacy was opened at AIIMS, New Delhi, on 15 November 2015.

As of 15 August 2026, AMRIT has 280 outlets across 24 States and 4 Union Territories, offering more than 6,500 medicines and healthcare products, including medicines for oncology, cardiology and diabetes, besides implants, stents, orthopaedic implants, surgical disposables and other medical consumables.

Established in 1966, HLL Lifecare Limited is a healthcare major with operations spanning contraceptives, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics and retail pharmacy.
