BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla and Padma Shri Awardee Paresh Maity Conferred Honorary Doctorates by Mohan Babu University

Honorary doctorates conferred at MBU’s 3rd Convocation in Tirupati, alongside 3,516 graduating students with women securing 75% of academic topper positions across disciplines in a landmark celebration of academic excellence and empowerment.

Tirupati, 31st August, 2026: Mohan Babu University (MBU) hosted its 3rd Annual Convocation at its Tirupati campus, with 3,516 students receiving their degrees across undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes. The occasion also saw the conferment of Honorary Doctorates on Padma Shri awardee and renowned painter Paresh Maity and Rajya Sabha MP and BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla.

Paresh Maity was recognised for his distinguished contribution to Indian art and his influence on the contemporary artistic landscape, while Rajeev Shukla was honoured for his distinguished public life and contribution to sports administration.

The graduating cohort of 3,516 students, nearly twice the size of last year’s graduating cohort, represented MBU’s multidisciplinary academic ecosystem. The graduates came from the School of Computing, School of Engineering, School of Commerce & Management, School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and School of Paramedical & Allied Health Sciences.

The cohort spanned disciplines including engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science, cyber security, management, commerce, biotechnology, microbiology, bioinformatics, forensic science, agriculture, pharmacy and allied health sciences.

In a moment of particular pride for the University, 75% of this year’s academic toppers across branches are women, a proud reflection of Mohan Babu University’s continued commitment to encouraging merit among its students, cutting across gender.

The ceremony was presided over by Dr. M. Mohan Babu, Chancellor, Mohan Babu University, with Dr. A. C. Shanmugam, Chancellor, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, Chennai, as the Chief Guest. The distinguished Guests of Honour included Mrs. Anurradha Prasad, Chairperson & Managing Director, B.A.G Films & Media Ltd.; Sri Vishnu Manchu, Pro-Chancellor, MBU; and Sri Vinay Maheshwari, Executive Director, SVET.

Speaking at the convocation, Vishnu Manchu, Pro-Chancellor at Mohan Babu University, said, “The 3rd Convocation is an important moment in Mohan Babu University’s journey, reflecting not just the growth of the University, but also the growing number of young people who are now ready to take their knowledge and ambitions into the world.”

“Honouring accomplished personalities such as Padma Shri awardee Paresh Maity and Rajeev Shukla makes the occasion even more meaningful for us, because their journeys demonstrate that excellence can take many forms and is built through commitment, perseverance and a clear sense of purpose. We hope our graduates draw inspiration from these journeys and carry the same ambition and determination as they begin the next chapter of their lives.” he further adds.

On receiving the honorary doctorate, Padma Shri awardee and renowned painter Paresh Maity said, “It is a great honour to receive this recognition from Mohan Babu University. Education and creativity are both journeys of continuous learning and curiosity, and I am pleased to be part of an occasion that celebrates both. I hope the graduating students remain curious, pursue their own paths with courage and approach their journeys with imagination and purpose.”

Rajeev Shukla, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Vice President, BCCI, said, “I am deeply honoured to receive an Honorary Doctorate from Mohan Babu University.
