When Will Windows 11 Launch?

One of the most widely used operating systems for PCs and laptops, Microsoft Windows commands more than 3/4th market share globally. It is known for its easy-to-use interface and extensive support for third-party software. The current version is Windows 10, which was launched in 2015. At the time of its launch, Microsoft had indicated that it will be the last version name for its operating system. However, as technologies have changed dramatically and owing to security concerns, Microsoft will be introducing a new version named Windows 11.

When will be Windows 11 released?

The announcement regarding Windows 11 was made in 2021. Microsoft had stated that Windows 11 will be released in “Holiday 2021”. An exact date of release was not provided at that time. We will have to wait couple more months to know the exact release date of Windows 11. For compatible computer systems, Windows 11 will be available as an online upgrade. It is likely to be a free upgrade from Windows 10.

It is to note that Microsoft has updated the minimum system requirements for Windows 11. So, only a small percentage of existing PCs and laptops will be eligible for Windows 11 update. For other users, they may probably have to invest in a new machine. We should be able to get better clarity, as more info about Windows 11 is made available by Microsoft.

What are key features of Windows 11?

  • Revised interface – With Windows 11, Microsoft has focused on improving easy-of-use and customization options. The user interface (UI) has been updated with a new color palette. Things like shape of icons and windows, animation and shadow effects and translucency have also been improved. Similarly, changes have been introduced for Taskbar, Star Menu, File Explorer, Widgets, and Windows Settings. All of these come with a new set of customization options.
  • Improved security – Windows 11 is aiming to provide advanced chip-level security features. This will be something similar to security available with macOS. While this move will improve security, it will increase hardware cost for consumers. Windows 11 can only be installed on computers that have a UEFI system with Secure Boot and a TPM 2.0 security coprocessor. Majority of current generation motherboards do not have this feature.
  • Faster operations – One of the common complaints against Windows is its slow processing. This will be improved with Windows 11, allowing quick boot time and faster web browsing.
  • Support for Android apps – Windows 11 will have a dedicated subsystem for installing and using Android apps.

While there’s excitement with every new release, it also brings challenges related to bugs and issues. We hope Windows 11 will be better than its predecessor and help users improve their efficiency and productivity.
