Macquarie University and TISS, Hyderabad launch MA in Public Policy and International Relations

This dual degree programme is supported by generous scholarships to aid academic journeys

Delhi, 1 April 2024: Macquarie University, one of Australia’s top 10 Universities, in collaboration with The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad, announces the launch of an innovative dual degree programme – Master of Arts in Public Policy and International Relations.

This transformative initiative is designed to equip aspiring policymakers with the interdisciplinary knowledge and skills essential for navigating the complexities of the present-day global landscape.

The MA in Public Policy and International Relations is a unique two-year programme that offers students the opportunity to earn two prestigious postgraduate degrees from two renowned institutions. The curriculum, meticulously crafted by experts from both TISS Hyderabad and Macquarie University, provides a comprehensive understanding of policy frameworks, institutional dynamics, and international geopolitics.

Prof. Chris Dixon, Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts at Macquarie University said, “We have embarked on a strategic path to empower Indian students with unmatched educational journeys in partnership with TISS Hyderabad. This new program will propel students to the forefront of Public Policy and International Relations, equipping them with the expertise and international perspective necessary to tackle global challenges.”

Prof. Madhushree Sekher, Dean, Office of International Relations at TISS, says “The programme will not only deepen Indo-Australian partnership, but also create a new architecture for public policy education connecting the local-national with regional and global.”

Prof. Aseem Prakash, one of the chief architects of the course, explains further, “Public Policy in India as a discipline, acquires additional depth by bringing together two converging disciplines Public Policy and International Relations to prepare thought leaders of the future.”

At TISS Hyderabad, students will delve into the intricacies of public policy and governance during the first year of the programme. Through a blend of theoretical insights and practical applications, they will develop the expertise to analyse policy frameworks, assess their impacts, and devise innovative solutions to pressing societal challenges.

The second year, hosted at Macquarie University in Sydney, will focus on the complexities of international relations in the rapidly evolving global context. Students will gain invaluable insights into global processes, regional dynamics, and the role of international organizations, preparing them to engage meaningfully with global affairs.

Programme structure:

· Year 1: MA in Public Policy and Governance at TISS Hyderabad

· Year 2: Master of International Relations at Macquarie University, Sydney

Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will receive dual MA degrees in Public Policy and International Relations, enhancing their career prospects in the global arena.
