Sonal Kapoor is the Chief Business Officer at Prodigy Finance, a company focused on providing international student loans. She is currently working with Prodigy Finance to lead the company’s global business strategy and growth initiatives. Her work emphasises the company’s mission to break down financial barriers for international postgraduate students pursuing education abroad.

Sonal has over 14 years of strategic leadership experience in various sectors, including FinTech, e-commerce, and product innovation. Before her current role, she spent eight years at Flipkart, where she served as Senior Director and Chief of Staff to the CEO. In that capacity, she was instrumental in driving strategic initiatives and maximising business outcomes for the company. She was also responsible for setting up the Fintech business for Flipkart in its formative years.

Sonal holds a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering & an MBA from Indian School of Business.

Like many students, she faced the daunting task of securing funding for her studies. She took a student loan for her higher education studies. The loan provided her with the opportunity to chase her aspirations, but it also brought a sense of responsibility and pressure. Her father was her cosigner, and she often worried about putting a financial burden on him. Throughout her studies, there were times when she thought about dropping out to start her own business, but the strict loan terms and the fear of risking her family’s financial security stopped her from doing so.

These experiences had a big impact on her, giving her a deep understanding of the challenges many students face while trying to get their education. She used her personal struggles as motivation. Today, she shows that with determination and support, it is possible to overcome financial obstacles.

While being at Prodigy Finance as Chief Business Officer, she aims to help students navigate similar challenges by providing them with innovative financial solutions that make education more accessible. Her story encourages others to pursue their dreams despite fears and uncertainties.

She is a top voice in the industry, frequently featured in various global and National  publications. Through her articles and interviews, she shares valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within the international education sector and the financial aspects related to it
