Rajkumar Chahar

Rajkumar Chahar is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Lok Sabha constituency of Fatehpur Sikri in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Chahar is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha constituency was created in 2008, as per the recommendations provided by the Delimitation Commission of India. Since 2008, the Fatehpur Sikri constituency has witnessed three Lok Sabha elections.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rajkumar Chahar defeated his nearest rival Raj Babbar of Indian National Congress (INC) by a margin of more than 4.95 lakh votes. Chahar’s win in 2019 created history, as no one earlier had won with such a massive margin in Agra district. Chahar received a total of 6,67,147 votes and his margin was even more than that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Early Life and Education

Rajkumar Chahar was born on July 10, 1967 to Shri Diwan Singh and Smt. Premvati. He was born in Kheragarh, located in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. Chahar has completed his graduation in commerce (B.Com) from R.V.S College, Agra University in 1987. On May 12, 1987, he married Vijaylaxmi.

Political Career

Rajkumar Chahar started his political career in 2002 when he raised his voice for the rights of farmers in Fatehpur Sikri. He had contested for UP Legislative Assembly thrice, but had remained unsuccessful. He first contested Assembly election on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket, second time on BJP ticket and third time as an independent. After this he joined hands with Raj Babbar of INC. In 2014, he again switched sides to join BJP. After winning the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Fatehpur Sikri, Chahar said that he was able to win the election due to welfare projects of the state and central government. He also thanked BJP and party workers for their continued support. He said that one of his top priorities will be to create job opportunities for the youth.
