Mumbai, April 2024: Vivekanand Education Society College of Architecture (VESCOA), has teamed up with Stree Mukti Sanghatana (SMS), a prominent NGO dedicated to women’s empowerment and environmental conservation. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between representatives from VESCOA and SMS, aims to engage students and faculty in initiatives fostering environmental stewardship and community engagement.
The collaboration will raise awareness among youth about the urgent need for environmental conservation through activities like waste shredding, lectures, exhibitions, and workshops. A key initiative under the MoU is the establishment of a medicinal/herbal garden on the VESCOA campus, promoting zero-waste practices. This initiative underscores VESCOA’s commitment to a sustainable learning environment integrating nature into architectural design principles.
Additionally, the partnership entails mutual cooperation in waste management and recycling. SMS will collect dry and e-waste from VESCOA for proper disposal and recycling. In return, VESCOA will receive essential supplies for dry waste and cash incentives for e-waste.
Commenting on the MoU, Mr. Anand Achari, Principal at VESCOA, stated, “We are thrilled to embark on this unique collaboration with Stree Mukti Sanghatana. This partnership offers our students a remarkable opportunity to immerse themselves in initiatives that promote sustainability and environmental awareness. Through engaging activities and hands-on learning experiences, our students will gain a deeper understanding of environmental protection and sustainability practices. These collaborations are essential for shaping well-rounded individuals who are equipped to tackle pressing challenges and enable more meaningful contributions to societal well-being.”
In response, Ms. Jyoti Mhapsekar from Stree Mukti Sanghatana (SMS) stated, “We believe in empowering communities and nurturing environmental stewardship. Through this collaboration, we aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills to address pressing environmental challenges. We are delighted to see institutes like VESCOA undertaking such collaborations and encouraging proactive engagement in sustainability initiatives.”
VESCOA remains committed to human well-being and environmental conservation through various efforts, which include the inspiring project “Transforming a Parking Lot into a Vibrant Shared Space, coastal beach cleaning, 90kg e-waste collection, and plastic waste collection.”
