BIMTECH Goes Beyond Classrooms; Engages Students in Nuances of International Trade and Climate Policy

Bengaluru, 5th December 2024: Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida, a leading business school in India, graciously hosted “Hermes Dialogue 5.0”, a platform dedicated to fostering insightful discussions on global trade and international relations. The event centred on the theme, “Countries Restrict Trade and Access to Critical Minerals to Achieve Climate Goals,” drew attention to pressing issues in global economics and sustainability.

The flagship event of the Cosmopolitan Club of PGDM-International Business Program at BIMTECH focused on enhancing students’ analytical and communication skills within the framework of international business. This event provided a platform for participants to engage in critical discussions while fostering responsible leadership, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

The esteemed jury for this illustrious event included Dr. Swati Singh, Director, Trade Policy Division at Confederation of Indian Industry, and Mr. Jayant Jawa, General Manager, Overseas Business- Daikin Air-conditioning India Pvt. Ltd.

Extending a warm welcome to all the participants, Dr. Prabina Rajib, Director, BIMTECH, shared, “Our institute has consistently prioritized the holistic development of its students. Hermes Dialogue is a platform that goes beyond the classroom to help students understand the nuances of international trade and climate policy. Such extracurricular activities are meant to engage students and allow them to develop a deeper understanding of contemporary Geo-political issues. It is also intended to enhance the knowledge of students in current International Business topics and develop public speaking, debating, critical thinking, and leadership skills.”

The 5th edition of this series was designed as a dynamic competition, where student teams represented different countries and expressed their stance on critical global issues, mirroring discussions held at the United Nations. Ten countries namely – India, European Union, South Korea, South Africa, Russia, China, United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia were assigned to the respective student teams and each team consisted of two students.

This intellectually stimulating competition unfolded 3 engaging rounds. Round 1 based on knowledge quest held a quiz on International Business and current affairs on the Unstop platform. The qualifying teams proceeded to Round 2, which featured roundtable discussions on insightful topics like “Entrepreneurship Profitability: A global business balance”, “The Future Work: Technology ethics and global business”, and “How do global trade policies impact the entry of start-ups into international markets?” The final round was the battle on perspectives among the qualifying teams.

Inspired by its founders Late Basant Kumar Birla and Sarala Birla, BIMTECH pioneered innovative programs like PGDM, PGDM-International Business (IB), PGDM-Retail Management (RM), and PGDM-Insurance Business Management (IBM), nurturing individuals into global leaders.
