68 year old grandmother of 2 bags Gold Medal in Half Marathon at the Indian Kettlebell Sports Championship 2025

New Delhi, 13 February 2025: 68 years old Sudesh Sangwan, a homemaker, mother of 3 and a grandmother of 2 set a new record in India by becoming the oldest person to play Kettlebell Sport in India and bagging a Gold medal. She did so by completing the 30 minutes nonstop half marathon event and performing 412 repetitions. Having started lifting kettlebells just 2 months before the event, and being coached by her son Vinay Sangwan who is also a World Champion, she has shown that one can always become an athlete irrespective of their age.

With an objective to further promote the Kettlebell sport in India, the Indian Kettlebell Sports Championship 2025, was organised in New Delhi in association with the sport’s World body – International Kettlebell Marathon Federation (IKMF) from 1st to 2nd February. The championship garnered an enthusiastic participation from 10 states of India competing under various disciplines based on age and weight categories. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Padma Shree awardee Dr. Deepa Malik, Former President of Paralympic Committee of India. Dr. Malik handed over the medals and awards to the winning athletes for their stellar performance and zeal.

The Indian Kettlebell Sports Championship 2025 witnessed participation of athletes from varied professions and diverse age groups ranging from 17 years to 68 years of age. Athletes from 10 states namely Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Karnataka participated in the competition along with a maiden international entry from Iraq.

The event set historic milestones in the history of Kettlebell sports championship in India as it became the first National championship where 6 athletes performed in the same flight. Moreover, it was the first time that 2 athletes above the age of 60 participated in the same event.

Key highlights of the Indian Kettlebell Sports Championship 2025:

• Sudesh Sangwan became the oldest Indian athlete to complete a 30-minute half marathon set in the discipline of half snatch.

• World champion and 6 times Gold medallist from India, Vinay Sangwan a National Rank in double Long Cycle with 20 kg bells

• Premchand became the first Indian to achive the CMS Rank with a 40 kg bell in the half snatch discipline.

• Nirav Koli and Manish Kumar Ruhail completed a 30-minute half marathon set in the discipline of one arm jerk with 40 kgs.

• Shivani Agarwalla achieved CMS rank in the discipline of full snatch half-marathon with 16 kg.

• The competition registered an international entry of Mohanad Zeyad from Iraq.

Speaking at the award distribution ceremony at the championship, Padma Shri Dr. Deepa Malik, Executive Board Member of the Asian Paralympic Committee and former President of Paralympic Committee of India said, “I congratulate the Indian Kettlebell Sports

Championship 2025 organizing committee to have put together this event in the most successful and convincing manner. The Indian Kettlebell sport community is gradually evolving across various parts of the country, which is clearly evident with participation of athletes from over 10 states competing in this championship. Moreover, with an international participant as well, it is a true testimony of motivation and encouragement to the growing popularity of Kettlebell sport in our great Nation”.

The event was organized by Arnav Sarkar and Vinay Sangwan. Arnav Sarkar is the Indian Representative of the International Kettlebell Marathon Federation (IKMF). Vinay Sangwan is a decorated Indian Kettlebell athlete having won multiple World Championships and holding multiple current Indian records. He is also the Only MSWC (Master of Sport in World Class) ranked athlete in India.
