Fresh from success with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the TATA IPL in his maiden coaching stint, Varun Aaron is embracing the opportunity to shape the bowling attack of Glasgow Cosmic in the European T20 Premier League. Speaking ahead of the team’s opener against Edinburgh Castle Rockers on August 27, Aaron shared his thoughts on being part of the ETPL and how he joined the Cosmic support staff.
Varun Aaron, Bowling Coach, Glasgow Cosmic, shared his thoughts on being part of the inaugural edition of the ETPL:
“It’s a great initiative for the associate nations, and especially for cricket in Scotland, the Netherlands and Ireland. Having dealt with the players, met them and interacted with them over the last few days, I think there’s so much scope for cricket here, and I’m glad to be a part of this league.”
On how he got involved with Glasgow Cosmic:
“Yeah, so Matthew Hayden called me up, and we’ve obviously worked together in broadcasting and have built a really good relationship. Sandy as well, Sandeep Raju, who’s the analyst at Gujarat Titans with Haydos, has a good relationship with him too. So, all three of us coming together, having known each other from before, was quite inviting, and I knew what we could do together. Hopefully, we get off to a good start and go on to win this tournament. It’s not just the three of us, we also have the other support staff, including Matthew Mott, who has so much experience in international cricket. So, yeah, bringing together a lot of really good support staff makes for a really good team.”
