What After Microsoft Windows 10

If we talk about personal computers, the Windows Operating System (OS) journey started in 1985 with the launch of Windows 1.01. Since that time, various Windows OS versions have been launched such as Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows, 7, Windows 8, and the latest version Windows 10. The journey has been a mix of successes and failures, with some versions gaining tremendous popularitywhereas others were criticized for being buggy, slow, and other such problems. The latest version Windows 10 has turned out to be hugely popular, as it is safer, faster, user-friendly and visually more appealing than its predecessors. Since Windows 10 has been here for quite some time after its launch in July 2015, people have started wondering about what will be the next version of Windows OS and the new features and functionalities it will have. Will it be named Windows 11 or something else?

There will not be any Windows 11

This might be a bit surprising for some people. Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be the last version of its OS for personal computers. This implies that there will not be any Windows 11 or any other new Windows OS. Existing users will be getting updates to Windows 10, but no new OS will be launched by Microsoft. Users will be getting the updates for free and there will not be any charges for the same. Some updates will be there on a regular basis, whereas major updates will be packed together and made available over longer durations.

Why no new Windows OS releases

There are many reasons why Microsoft has decided to keep Windows 10 as its last OS version.

Cloud-based services: In case of any major changes, Microsoft will utilize its cloud network to offer new features and services to Windows 10 users. These may or may not attract additional charges. Microsoft has not provided any clarity on this at this time.

Improved integration with drivers and software:Currently, personal computers globally have different types of Windows OS installed. Different Windows OS requires different types of drivers and software, which often creates a huge problem for device manufacturers, software companies and users. By sticking to Windows 10, Microsoft will be able to reduce the problems associated with installing drivers and software. Microsoft is said to be targeting a day when all Windows PCs will be using the Windows 10 OS only.

Greater brand recall: Eventually, Windows 10 will become the one and only reliable name for Windows computer users. This will boost the brand value and recall.

Increased efficiency and cost-savings: After a few years, Microsoft will stop providing updates to other versions of Windows OS. Updates to Windows XP and below have already been stopped and the remaining ones will have the same predicament. With only Windows 10, Microsoft will be able to reduce the time, effort and costs required to provide updates.

Microsoft has no plans to release any new OS versions; at least not anytime soon. So, if you were waiting for Windows 11 or anything similar, just forget about it. Go for Windows 10, since it already works great and you will be getting the updates free for life.
