To maintain a fit and combat-ready force, soldiers in the Indian Army often retire as early as age 35 or 37. Even though soldiers get pension, finding a job or profession after retirement can help live a more active and fulfilling life. Also, the additional income will ensure better care of family members. Let us take a look at some good career options that Indian Army soldiers can consider post-retirement.
Government and public sector jobs – Special reservations are available to ex-servicemen in organizations such as Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), etc. Retired Indian Army soldiers can join for various posts such as constables, sub-inspectors or assistant commandants. Similarly, career opportunities are also available with many state police departments.
Retired soldiers can also join various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) such as ONGC, BHEL, Indian Railways, etc. These placements are done via the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR). Soldiers also have the option to open petrol pumps and CNG stations, as per schemes available with companies like HPCL and Indian Oil. Based on their skills, retired soldiers can also start repair shops, service centers, etc.
