Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) expresses deepest condolences after tragic Ahmedabad aviation accident

Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) is profoundly saddened by the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787 8 Dreamliner, which occurred today shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The flight was en route to London Gatwick and carried 242 souls. Initial reports confirm at least 100 fatalities and many more injured following the aircraft’s descent into a residential-to-hostel area near Meghani Nagar.

On behalf of the entire THSC family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones and to all those affected by this devastating incident,” said Mrs. Jyoti Mayal, Chairperson of THSC & Former President of TAAI (Travel Agents Association of India). “This tragedy has not only shaken communities but also cast a shadow over the spirit of travel and exploration that unites us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, the brave rescue workers, and the medical staff who are tirelessly working on the ground. We stand in solidarity and commit to supporting relief and rehabilitation efforts in any way we can.”

Mrs. Mayal emphasized the far-reaching impact of such disasters on tourism and the importance of preparedness saying Incidents like these serve as stark reminders that safety is the foundation of a resilient tourism sector. When tragedy strikes, it disrupts not just lives but also the confidence of travelers, the livelihoods of those dependent on tourism, and the overall image of a destination. At THSC, we recognize the urgent need to strengthen crisis management and emergency preparedness. We are actively exploring ways to integrate specialized emergency response skill modules into our certification programs to better equip frontline hospitality personnel for such unforeseen situations.

The Ahmedabad plane crash is not just an aviation tragedy, its a solemn reminder of the interdependence between safety, preparedness, and public trust in travel. As the tourism sector works collectively to comfort the affected, it also recommits to ensuring that every journey begins and ends safely. The Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council stands united with the nation during this difficult time and will continue to advocate for stronger safety and crisis response mechanisms across all sectors of the industry.
