Bengaluru, 4 August 2025: The students of RV University’s School of Film, Media and Creative Arts (SoFMCA) received deep insights into cinematic language and its effective narratives on a global platform at an interactive session conducted on the university campus by renowned filmmaker Mukesh Kumar Singh, widely acclaimed for directing Kannappa (2025) and Mahabharat (TV series – 2013).
Themed ‘Storytelling for the Screen: How to Tell Indian Stories for a Global Audience’, the session, part of SoFMCA’s Students’ Orientation Programme, 2025, strove to equip the students with a cutting-edge understanding of the craft of storytelling for a global audience.
Besides Mr. Singh, Prof. (Dr.) Dwarika Prasad Uniyal, Vice-Chancellor (i/c), RV University, Prof. (Dr.) Piyush Roy, Dean, School of Film, Media and Creative Arts and Prof. (Dr.) Kitty Mukherjee, Assistant Dean, SoFMCA, shared insights at the event.
Speaking about cinema’s ability to move audiences and shape perceptions, Mr. Singh said,. “Cinema has this incredible soft power to move people and to change how they see the world. With global cinema just a click away, the global stage is hungry for fresh, rooted narratives. It is our job to craft them with responsibility as filmmakers”, he said. “My advice to young filmmakers is to use short films as a platform to experiment, learn, and make mistakes”.
The session focused on the importance of studying classic movies and literature to understand human psychology, character depth, and technical precision. The event reinforced cinema’s quintessence to move beyond surface-level storytelling and embrace the medium as a powerful, responsible act of cultural expression with an aim to influence how the world sees India.
RV University recently welcomed a cohort of 2,000 students into its diverse range of programmes across its eight schools – Law, Business, Economics and Public Policy, Computer Science and Engineering, Design and Innovation, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Film, Media and Creative Arts and School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies.
