How to Link RuPay Credit Card to UPI on Paytm in 5 Minutes

Enable credit-backed UPI payments for kirana shops, fuel stations, food outlets and other offline retail stores

Paytm (One 97 Communications Limited), India’s full-stack merchant payments leader serving MSMEs and enterprises, a leading financial services distribution company, and the pioneer of mobile payments, QR codes, and Soundbox, has made it simple for users to link their RuPay Credit Card to UPI. This advancement empowers millions of users to make everyday purchases using credit, even at small outlets that only accept UPI. Whether it’s a tea stall, grocery shop, fuel station, or online shopping, Paytm ensures that credit is available wherever UPI is accepted, all without needing the physical card.

This addresses one of the most common limitations faced by credit card holders, the inability to use cards at smaller outlets that traditionally accept only UPI. By enabling RuPay Credit Cards to work seamlessly with UPI, Paytm removes this barrier, allowing users to enjoy the benefits of credit even at neighborhood stores and everyday spending touchpoints.

How to Link a RuPay Credit Card to UPI on Paytm:

  1. Open the Paytm app
  2. Tap on ‘All UPI Services’ from the homepage
  3. Select ‘Link RuPay Credit Card’
  4. Choose the issuing bank from the list of RuPay Credit Card providers
  5. Set a UPI PIN for the credit card
  6. Start making payments instantly using the linked card

By empowering individuals to use credit as easily as UPI, the company is bridging the gap between traditional credit usage and the widespread acceptance of digital payments. This makes everyday purchases, whether small or large, more accessible, rewarding, and seamless for millions across the country.

Recently, the fintech major has also introduced various enhancements to improve mobile payments, including the ability to hide or unhide specific payments for added privacy, home screen widgets like ‘Receive Money’ for faster payments, and personalised UPI IDs that allow creation of unique, memorable handles without revealing mobile numbers. UPI statements can now be downloaded in Excel or PDF formats, and the app also displays the total balance across all UPI-linked bank accounts, providing a clear, consolidated view of one’s finances. Expanding its reach globally, Paytm now supports UPI transactions in countries such as the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, enabling smoother payments for Indian travellers abroad.
