70% of Knee and Shoulder Injuries Linked to Falls, Report City Doctors

Ahmedabad, 29 August 2025 — Knee and shoulder injuries are among the most frequent Orthopaedic concerns across the general population, with nearly 70% linked to falls in daily life. Addressing this growing burden, Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad, today inaugurated *Apollo Restore+*, a dedicated center offering integrated diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for Knee and Shoulder conditions.

The center was inaugurated by Chief Guest Padma Shri Dr. Vishnu Pandya, distinguished Gujarati journalist and former Chairman, Gujarat Sahitya Academy, alongside Mr. Krishan Pandya, Gujarat Kabaddi Team, and Mr. Dhruv Raval, Coach, Gujarat Cricket Team.

“Apollo Restore+ is designed to deliver seamless, evidence-based care from diagnosis to complete recovery,” said Cdr. Jelson Kavalakkat, CEO, Apollo Hospitals. “This initiative underscores our commitment to advancing patient outcomes through a multidisciplinary, coordinated approach.”

According to Dr. Krunal Soni, Orthopedic Surgeon, Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad, day-to-day falls — including road-traffic accidents, domestic slips, and trips — account for the majority of knee and shoulder injuries. In sports and gym-related activities, twisting knee injuries and shoulder dislocations are more commonly seen.

“While falls dominate the general population, athletes typically sustain predictable injury patterns due to structured training and conditioning,” Dr. Soni explained. “Non-athletic injuries often arise from routine activities, lifestyle factors, or unexpected trauma, while athlete related injuries are common in contact and pivot-intensive sports such as Kabaddi, Football, Cricket, Badminton, and Gym activities.”

Dr. Soni further noted the influence of age and activity on injury pattern stating that Knee injuries and shoulder dislocations predominate in age group of 15–45 years, while Shoulder muscle and soft-tissue injuries are more frequent in 35-65 years age group. “These trends highlight the need for age-specific, individualised treatment strategies tailored to both the mechanism of injury and functional demands,” he added.

At Apollo Restore+, treatment spans medical management, minimally invasive surgery, and structured rehabilitation. Advanced Arthroscopy Surgery enable smaller incisions, minimal soft-tissue trauma, enhanced visualisation, and faster recovery, allowing patients to resume activity sooner.

“Rehabilitation is not merely physical repair — it is restoration of confidence, mobility, and independence,” said Dr. Jatin Vakharia, Consultant – Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement, Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad. “Every patient at Apollo Restore+ benefits from a personalised rehabilitation plan designed for both short-term recovery and long-term wellness.”

Apollo Restore+ functions as a fully integrated programme that unites medical evaluation, surgical expertise, and physiotherapy rehabilitation under one roof. This ensures continuity of care, closing the gap between treatment and complete recovery.
