Bengaluru: The 171st State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) meeting for Karnataka, for the quarter ended June 2025, was convened on 03rd September 2025 under the Chairpersonship of Dr.Shalini Rajneesh, Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka and co-chaired by Smt. Uma Mahadevan, Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner, GoK.
The keynote address was delivered by Shri Bhavendra Kumar, Executive Director, Canara Bank. The meeting was attended by Smt. Sonali Sengupta, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India; Smt. Meenakshi Ganju, General Manager, Financial Inclusion Development Department, Reserve Bank of India; Shri P. C. Dash, General Manager, NABARD and Shri Bhaskara Chakravarthy, Convenor – SLBC Karnataka along with senior officials of Government Departments, RBI, NABARD and controlling heads of various banks.
During the deliberations:
Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, Chief Secretary, GoK, emphasized the need for banks to clear the pending applications under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) on a war-footing basis to ensure timely housing benefits to eligible beneficiaries.
Smt. Uma Mahadevan, ACS & DC, GoK, highlighted the importance of universal coverage under the Jan Suraksha social security schemes and urged banks to ensure that all eligible citizens are enrolled in ongoing DFS Gram Panchayat campaign. She also urged all Government Departments, in liaison with banks, to take note of Government-sponsored schemes for effective implementation. She further appreciated Banks for taking initiative of enrolling IIBF trained NRLM SHG women members as BC Sakhis.
Shri Bhavendra Kumar, Executive Director, Canara Bank, called upon the controlling heads of banks to expedite disposal of pending applications under government-sponsored schemes within the stipulated timelines.
Smt. Sonali Sengupta, Regional Director, RBI, stressed upon the need for banks to complete pending Re-KYC accounts to maintain updated customer records and ensure regulatory compliance. She further emphasized the need for banks to open branches in pending/unbanked locations to strengthen financial inclusion.
Shri. P C Dash, General Manager, NABARD, underscored the importance of ensuring adequate and timely credit flow to agriculture and allied activities which form the backbone of the rural economy.
The SLBC meeting concluded with a collective resolve from all stakeholders to strengthen financial inclusion, expedite government scheme implementation, and improve service delivery to the people of Karnataka.
