Mumbai, 25th September 2025: At AIIFA STEELEX 2025, one of the largest gatherings of steel producers, B Prabhakaran, Managing Director of Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd, outlined his transformative vision for Gadchiroli, positioning it as a world-class steel corridor. With its rich iron ore reserves, progressive governance, and a growing empowered workforce, Gadchiroli is evolving from a mineral-rich district into a benchmark of inclusive growth, sustainable mining, and industrial innovation for the nation.
The district, once known solely for its mineral deposits, is now driving responsible industrialization at scale. Over 55 million tons of ore have already been extracted from just 300 hectares with thousands more hectares available, underscoring Gadchiroli’s readiness for accelerated growth. Its iron ore, high in iron content and low in alumina, minimizes the need for beneficiation, supports sustainable construction and reduces environmental impact. As part of its infrastructure expansion, Lloyds Metals & Energy is also developing a dedicated slurry pipeline to enhance ore transportation efficiency, reduce environmental load and strengthen long-term logistics across the region. This includes with a recently commissioned 85km slurry pipeline and an upcoming 195km slurry pipeline with a cumulative capacity of 20 MTPA designed to connect Gadchiroli’s mining operations to integrated steel plants in Konsari and Ghugus. These pipelines are expected to significantly reduce transportation costs and carbon emissions while supporting scalable, sustainable growth.
Beyond industrial growth, Mr. Prabhakaran emphasized that the region’s progress is intrinsically linked to community empowerment and livelihood creation. From tree-planting initiatives that restore degraded land to the rise of first-generation earners including women bar-benders and welders, Gadchiroli is demonstrating how industrial progress can align with environmental stewardship and social equity.
