The study based on 7 million tests conducted at Redcliffe Labs across India between FY24 and FY25, reveals a concerning picture of the nation’s heart health.
India, 29th September 2025 – A new study by Redcliffe Labs, one of India’s fastest-growing diagnostic service providers, has revealed alarming trends in lipid, cardiac, and diabetes markers across the country. Despite the rising burden of lifestyle diseases, preventive health checks remain a blind spot for most Indians, delaying timely intervention.
The study, based on 7 million tests conducted at Redcliffe Labs across India between FY24 and FY25, reveals a concerning picture of the nation’s heart health. More than 40% of individuals showed diabetes derangements (assessed through HbA1c, fasting glucose, and random glucose), a condition that significantly accelerates cardiovascular risk. Alarmingly, the data highlights that diabetes-related issues are more prevalent in men, making them particularly vulnerable to sudden cardiac events.
Equally troubling is the trend in lipid derangements (cholesterol & triglycerides), one of the leading causes of arterial blockages and heart disease. The study found that over 70% of results were deranged in 2024, climbing to above 80% in 2025. A sharp year-on-year rise that underlines the urgency of intervention.
Commenting on these findings, Dr. Prashant Nag, Chief Operating Medical Officer at Redcliffe Labs, highlighted that the widespread consumption of unhealthy, processed foods is one of the key drivers behind rising cholesterol levels. While most people are aware that such foods are harmful, their easy availability and convenience have made them a daily dependency. Combined with sedentary lifestyles that prevent calorie burn, this leads to clogged arteries and significantly heightens the risk of cardiac emergencies.
What’s even more striking is that this health crisis is most pronounced in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Noida, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Ghaziabad, Patna, and Lucknow, in regions where awareness and access to healthcare are higher, yet lifestyle risks remain unchecked. The data strongly reinforces that regular preventive testing, coupled with sustainable lifestyle changes, remains the most effective way to detect silent risks early and prevent them from escalating into life-threatening cardiac emergencies.
Upon analyzing the data further for cardiac risk markers, it was found that the derangement increased from 60% in 2024 to approximately 65% in 2025. Notably, the abnormalities in cardiac risk markers were more prevalent in women. This also means women show early signs of cardiac risks compared to men and have enough time to reverse the conditions.
Perhaps most concerning is the presence of these risk factors in young adults even before they reach their 20s. Once considered lifestyle diseases of middle or older age groups, cholesterol imbalance, high sugar, and early cardiac strain are now being reported in working-age populations, specially in metro cities like Delhi,
Aditya Kandoi, CEO & Founder, Redcliffe Labs, said: “India cannot afford to sleepwalk into a cardiac epidemic. Our study shows that cholesterol and diabetes are not just numbers on a report; they are direct contributors to heart disease, which is now affecting people far younger than before. What concerns me most is not just the number of people falling ill, but the fact that so many delay getting tested until complications set in.
That’s why we’ve introduced a bold step with initiatives like India’s Wake-Up Test, which offers a 100% refund if your reports are 100% normal. The idea is simple: if you’re healthy, you don’t lose anything, but by taking the test, you gain insight into your health and life; and if something is detected, you gain the opportunity to act early.
We at Redcliffe Labs urge every Indian to make regular health checks a part of life, not just for themselves, but for their families and for a healthier nation. ” Because prevention is not an expense, it’s an investment in the nation’s future,” added Mr. Kandoi.
Redcliffe Labs emphasizes that affordable, accessible, and accurate diagnostics are the first line of defense to reverse this trend, helping Indians take charge of their heart health before it’s too late.
