MoU signed to train Rapido Captains as knowledge ambassadors of Telangana’s rich culture and history
Hyderabad, September 30, 2025: Rapido, India’s leading ride-sharing platform, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Telangana’s Department of Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture at the Telangana Tourism Conclave 2025 in Hyderabad to launch the “Rapido Heritage Captains” initiative. Under this collaboration, selected Rapido Captains will be trained as knowledge ambassadors on Telangana’s heritage sites, history, and culture, enhancing the tourism experience for visitors and residents alike.
The training modules will be curated jointly with the Department, covering prominent heritage sites, cultural landmarks, and historical narratives across Telangana. Captains will receive structured sessions led by experts and access to heritage institutions, ensuring accurate and authentic knowledge transfer. The pilot phase will begin in Hyderabad, with expansion planned to other key heritage cities in the state. As part of the initiative, Rapido will introduce a dedicated “Heritage Captain” badge on its app, enabling riders to identify and book trained Captains. The app will also feature notifications and geo-location integration to suggest heritage circuits and popular cultural landmarks in Hyderabad and beyond.
Mr. Pavan Guntupalli, Co-Founder, Rapido, said, “As someone who hails from Telangana, today’s partnership holds a special meaning for me. This initiative by the Government is a powerful step towards celebrating our cultural legacy and connecting more deeply with the heritage of the state. In our personal experience, we often encounter cab, rickshaw, and bike drivers sharing their deep knowledge about Telangana’s rich and diverse cultural history. This initiative will help standardize and enhance that knowledge transfer, ensuring tourists, migrants and locals receive authentic and engaging insights. It demonstrates that mobility, when treated as a public good, can move not just people, but also ideas, heritage and livelihoods. At Rapido, we are dedicated to contributing meaningfully to Telangana’s growth story and supporting initiatives that strengthen Telangana’s presence on a global stage.”
Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Chief Minister’s Office and Department of Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture, Government of Telangana, said, “Through this partnership with Rapido, we are taking an innovative step to make the state’s heritage more accessible and engaging for visitors and locals alike, by leveraging micromobility and technology. Training Rapido Captains as knowledge ambassadors will not only elevate the tourism experience but also create new opportunities for skill development and livelihood enhancement. We look forward to seeing this initiative deepen the connection between people and the vibrant, storied treasures of Telangana.”
Rapido, with over 12.5 lakh registered Captains in the state and facilitating more than 1 lakh rides daily in Hyderabad alone, is one of the largest urban mobility platforms in Telangana and among the country’s biggest job creators. Through initiatives like “Rapido Heritage Captains,” the company reinforces its commitment to livelihood creation, upskilling, and supporting state tourism. Telangana is home to iconic destinations such as Charminar, Golconda Fort, Warangal Fort, Ramappa Temple, and the Kakatiya Heritage sites, offering a vibrant tapestry of history, culture, and tradition. This initiative is designed to make these heritage sites more accessible while also bolstering skill development for the state’s gig workforce.
