Intimate hygiene is an important yet often overlooked aspect of women’s health. Many women lack consistent awareness of proper intimate hygiene. They often depend on habits formed by misinformation or little guidance, affecting their daily well-being. Studies state that while people widely follow basic routines such as regular bathing and changing underwear, certain practices persist despite a lack of clear understanding about their impact.
The awareness sessions are part of a structured community initiative focused on improving understanding of menstrual and intimate health among women, according to organizers. The team designs the sessions to share basic, practical information and encourage open discussion on everyday hygiene practices through on-ground engagement with non-governmental organizations. They aim to fill information gaps and promote informed, preventive health practices.
Namyaa, a female wellness brand focused on intimate hygiene and personal care, originates from a family-led skincare business and is currently led by Karan Gupta and Kriti Gupta. The brand has articulated the view that intimate hygiene should be treated as a routine health concern rather than a subject of silence or stigma. In line with this approach, Namyaa has been associated with awareness-led outreach through its initiative titled ‘Namyaa – Her Wellness Project’.
As a part of the initiative, the brand collaborated with non-governmental organizations including the Brave Souls Foundation, PARI (People Against Rapes in India), and Vyomini Social Enterprise to conduct community-based awareness sessions. Alongside educational discussions, the outreach also involved the distribution of essential menstrual and intimate hygiene products, such as menstrual cups and basic hygiene supplies, particularly among women from underserved communities, including acid attack survivors.
“According to studies and reports, a significant number of women in India remain unaware of the right intimate hygiene practices, while many are still unable to access basic menstrual necessities. In response to these challenges, We at Namyaa have been associated with initiatives focused on improving access to menstrual hygiene essentials, highlighting their importance as a basic aspect of women’s health and dignity.” said Karan Gupta, Director of Namyaa.
“The company has so far reached thousands of women through the distribution of menstrual cups and hygiene products and has collaborated with non-governmental organizations to conduct educational webinars and product distribution initiatives” Further Mr Karan Added.
In many communities, stigma and lack of credible information prevent women from discussing everyday health concerns or seeking timely guidance. Non-governmental organizations conduct the sessions in familiar community spaces, supporting informed dialogue, improving health literacy, and reducing hesitation around issues that directly affect women’s daily well-being. Community-based awareness programs will continue to expand, and civil society organizations, along with supporting stakeholders, will sustain collaboration to strengthen preventive health practices and improve access to credible information for women across diverse communities.
