How Much Gold Human Body Has?

Just like other living beings, the human body is also made up from various elements. It includes oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, sodium, chlorine, magnesium and other trace elements. It makes us wonder if there is gold also inside human body. And if yes, then how much gold human body has? What role does gold play in human body? Will consuming gold improve our health? To answer such questions, here are some important things we need to know about gold and human body.

Is there Gold in human body?

As per estimates, an average human being of around 70 kg will have approximately 0.22 milligrams of gold inside them. It is likely to be distributed throughout the body such as lungs, blood, heart, brain and joints. This is largely a statistical estimate and not something that has been actually tested in a laboratory. Several thousands of such tests will be needed to conclusively prove the average gold found in human body. As doing so will be quite an expensive exercise, researchers have used statistical analysis to measure the amount of gold present in human body.

What is role of Gold in human body?

Elements like calcium, copper, magnesium, potassium, iron, sodium, zinc, etc. play an important role in functioning of human body. For example, calcium is important for our bones and teeth. Iron is needed to carry oxygen to the cells. There are innumerable functions that these elements perform in our body. In case of gold, it is said to boost our intellect, aid joint movement and improve transmission of electrical signals throughout the body. However, these things have not been proven.

Will Gold improve our health?

You could have come across articles or videos that talk about the benefits of gold. Some may advocate wearing gold jewelry, saying that trace amounts of gold will be transferred into the body via skin. Others may vouch for eating specialized food products fortified with gold. However, these claims have not been scientifically proven in a laboratory environment. Gold is highly unreactive, due to which it will pass through the body undigested. So consuming gold fortified foods may just be a marketing gimmick. However, it could have a psychological impact, which is referred to as ‘placebo’.

From a health perspective, you would do better by focusing on nutritional items that really matter. Things like iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, etc. will serve you better. Also focus on consuming more of natural items instead of things that are produced in a factory. As for gold, it is also useful in life. However, it will be more relevant to things like long-term investment. Gold can boost your wealth, but not your health.
