Chuck Grassley is an American politician, currently serving as the senior United States senator from the state of Iowa. He is also shouldering the responsibility of the president pro tempore emeritus of the United States Senate. This is the second highest ranking position in the United States Senate, next only to the Vice President of United States.
Chuck Grassley has a long history in politics, having been the senator from Iowa for eight consecutive terms. He had held this position since 1980. With his long-standing political career, Chuck has created many records. For example, he holds the record of being the longest serving Republican in US senate history. He had broken Orrin Hatch’s record in January 2023. Chuck also holds the title of being the sixth-longest-serving U.S. senator of all time.
Chuck Grassley has been winning the senate election in Iowa from 1980 to 2022. In the 2022 election, Chuck Grassley defeated his nearest rival Michael Franken of Democratic Party by a margin of more than 147,000 votes. He received 56% of the votes in comparison to 43.9% of the nearest rival.
However, the 2022 election was not particularly the best for Chuck. His best performance was in 2004 election, when he had received a staggering 70.18% of the total votes cast. With eight consecutive terms as a senator, it goes on to show the level of trust and confidence people in Iowa have in Chuck Grassley.
Early life, education and professional career
Chuck Grassley was born on September 17, 1933 to Ruth (née Corwin) and Louis Arthur Grassley. He was born in New Hartford, Iowa and raised on a farm. His educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in political science from the University of Northern Iowa. He had also enrolled for a Ph.D. in political science, but did not complete it. Chuck married Barbara Ann Speicher on August 22, 1954.
In his professional career, Chuck had worked as a sheet metal shearer. Later, he also worked as an assembly line worker. For a couple of years, he took up a teaching job at Charles City College.
Political career
Prior to becoming a senator, Chuck had served in the United States House of Representatives for three terms (1975-1981). His other key positions include Senate Finance Committee chairman for three terms. He had also headed the Senate Aging Committee, Senate Judiciary Committee and Senate Narcotics Committee.
During his tenure, Chuck has expressed his views on topics such as abortion, agriculture, antitrust, energy & environment, estate taxes, gun law, healthcare, marijuana legislation, military, Israel anti-boycott act, LGBT rights, retirement planning and Russian interference in 2016 elections.

Chuck Grassley is an early riser, waking up at sharp 4 AM, four days in a week. For four days in a week, he runs 3 miles without fail. He has been following this routine for the last 20 years. Chuck is also a regular at Dairy Queen.
