Fatal nose pin screw extracted from a woman’s lung at Medica Superspecialty Hospital

Barkha Devi, a homemaker in her mid-thirties (name changed for privacy) accidentally inhaled the screw of her nose pin a few months back. It was extremely difficult to bring the sharp object out with a regular flexible bronchoscope owing to its precarious location, possibility of injury, and the anatomical distortion resulting from its long presence there.”

Traditionally, such cases necessitate invasive surgery involving the removal of a portion of the lung to prevent potential complications. Despite the odds, they opted for conventional bronchoscopy, showcasing their commitment to innovation, patient safety and patient-centric care.

In an extraordinary feat of medical prowess, the team successfully extracted the sharp metal screw from Barkha Devi’s lung, thereby averting potential long-term complications. Remarkably, Barkha Devi’s recovery surpassed expectations, and she was discharged from the hospital after just four days.
