Adani Foundation supports small farmer in Yavatmal through shade net–based protected cultivation, enabling climate-resilient agriculture.
The initiative has helped diversify crops with chilli, tomato, brinjal saplings and onion cultivation, ensuring year-round income.
The intervention has increased annual income from ₹1.50 lakh to ₹4.00 lakh, strengthening livelihood security.
Chandigarh, 1 June 2026: ACC along with the Adani Foundation is strengthening climate-resilient agriculture practices near its Chanda plant in Yavatmal district by enabling small farmers to adopt shade net–based protected cultivation. The initiative is aimed at improving incomes and reducing dependence on erratic weather patterns.
Yavatmal, a drought-prone region dependent on rainfed farming, faces extreme temperatures of up to 42°C, making traditional agriculture vulnerable to frequent crop losses. Recognising these challenges, Adani Foundation has been promoting sustainable livelihood interventions tailored to local conditions.
As part of this effort, Vinod Balakrishna There, a small farmer from Paramdoh village in Wani block, was supported under the Foundation’s Sustainable Livelihood Development Project. Owning 1.75 acres of land, he previously relied on cotton cultivation, earning around ₹1.5 lakh annually under uncertain conditions.
In 2023–24, Adani Foundation facilitated the installation of a shade net unit over 0.1 acres of his land and provided technical training on nursery management and crop cultivation. The intervention was aimed at introducing climate-resilient practices and enabling income diversification.
Under the protected structure, There now cultivates chilli, tomato and brinjal saplings for commercial sale, along with onion. The controlled environment has led to improved germination rates, reduced heat stress and lower crop losses, enabling year-round production and consistent demand from nearby villages.
In addition, he continues cultivation on the remaining 1.6 acres, growing chilli and maize using improved agricultural practices promoted by the Foundation.
The intervention has resulted in a significant increase in income, with approximately ₹1.5 lakh generated from the shade net unit and ₹2.5 lakh from open-field farming, taking his total annual income to around ₹4 lakh.
Through this targeted intervention, Adani Foundation has transformed Mr. There’s farming into a diversified and sustainable agri-enterprise. The initiative demonstrates how innovative, climate-resilient solutions can enhance income stability, reduce agricultural risks, and create long-term livelihood security for small farmers in vulnerable regions.
