Adani Foundation at ACC Sindri promotes sustainable vegetable farming through micro-irrigation in Samlapur

  • ACC and the Adani Foundation implement Samlapur Watershed Project to promote drip-based and trellis farming in rain-fed villages
  • 84 farmers from Samlapur and Chhatatand benefit through modern vegetable cultivation techniques
  • Scientific farming models lead to 40–60% income growth while improving water use and crop quality

Jharkhand, 15 October 2025: ACC, the cement and building materials company of the diversified Adani Portfolio, along with the Adani Foundation, is supporting small and marginal farmers to adopt climate-resilient farming practices near its Sindri plant. Through the Samlapur Watershed Project, implemented in partnership with NABARD and REACT, the initiative promotes modern cultivation techniques such as drip irrigation, mulching, and trellis farming to enhance yield, conserve water, and boost rural incomes amongst farmers in Jharkhand’s Samlapur and Chhatatand villages.

Covering 21 acres of farmland and reaching 84 farmers, the project introduced two distinct models: drip-based mulch farming for vegetables like chilli, tomato and brinjal, and trellis farming for creeper crops such as bitter gourd and bottle gourd. Farmers were trained to use plastic mulch and vertical farming structures, enabling better moisture retention, space utilisation, and pest control. Together, these changes improved both the quality and quantity of produce.

The impact has been significant. Farmers reported a 40–60% increase in income, lower costs on labour and water, and greater participation from women in agriculture. The initiative also contributed to better soil conservation and stronger community ownership of farming processes.

By promoting cash crop cultivation through efficient, community-led methods, ACC is enabling long-term livelihood security in rain-fed regions. The success of this model points to its potential for wider adoption in neighbouring villages—one farm, one family at a time.
