BatX Energies and Rocklink Announce Strategic Indo-German Collaboration to Launch India’s First Rare Earth Magnet Recycling Ecosystem

Gurugram, India; July 18, 2025: BatX Energies Private Limited, a critical material recovery and battery recycling company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rocklink GmbH, a Germany-based global leader in rare earth element (REE) and specialty metal recycling. This landmark collaboration aims to establish India’s first integrated rare earth magnet recycling and refining ecosystem, combining Indian execution strength with German technical and market expertise.

The partnership is a direct outcome of increasing alignment under the EU–India Trade and Technology Council (TTC) and represents a significant milestone in fostering sustainable and secure critical mineral value chains between Europe and India. BatX, an active participant in the EU TTC working groups on critical minerals and the circular economy, will co-lead this initiative as part of India’s broader strategy for self-reliance and clean technology leadership. Rocklink India and BatX initiated India’s first Lithium-Ion battery and permanent magnet recycling cluster in Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh, to provide vertically integrated solutions.

Key Objectives of the BatX–Rocklink Collaboration

The BatX–Rocklink collaboration is centered on building a robust, scalable, and environmentally responsible rare earth magnet recycling ecosystem in India. As part of this strategic partnership, the two companies will deploy Rocklink’s proprietary Magcycle™ reverse logistics system across India, creating a traceable collection network for end-of-life permanent magnets, including NdFeB, SmCo, and AlNiCo, sourced from motors, electronics, and industrial waste. The partnership will also jointly develop and commercialize advanced solvent extraction (SX) technologies to efficiently separate and purify high-value rare earth elements such as Neodymium, Praseodymium, Dysprosium, Terbium, Gadolinium, and Holmium. A major milestone will be the commissioning of India’s first fully integrated rare earth refining facility, designed to meet zero-liquid-discharge (ZLD) standards and export compliance benchmarks.

The two companies will co-develop and file patents for the technologies in both India and Europe, creating a joint intellectual property portfolio. Ultimately, the collaboration aims to enable a domestic rare earth supply chain in India while simultaneously strengthening Europe’s access to sustainable, transparent, and circular sources of critical materials—aligning with the strategic priorities of both economies under the EU–India Trade and Technology Council.

“This partnership marks a defining moment in India’s journey toward rare earth self-reliance,” said Utkarsh Singh, CEO, BatX Energies. “We’re proud to lead this initiative alongside Rocklink and to carry forward the vision outlined in the EU TTC for building circular and transparent critical mineral value chains between India and Europe.”

“Rocklink is committed to establishing vertically integrated long-loop recycling solutions to support government efforts to establish a functional rare earth magnet supply chain in India,” said Leonard Ansorge, Director at Rocklink GmbH. “Our alliance with BatX brings together our materials and refining expertise with BatX’s innovative and practical approaches on refining to deliver tangible results in short development cycles.”

Advancing the EU–India Cleantech Corridor

This collaboration exemplifies the goals of the EU–India TTC, which emphasizes cooperation on sustainable technologies, critical minerals, and industrial resilience. As Europe seeks to diversify its rare

earth supply chains and India invests in strategic clean technologies, this partnership will serve as a model for how co-innovation and co-ownership of IP can unlock sustainable value for both regions.

With the pilot facility set to begin operations within 12 months and the commercial plant to follow within the next 24 months, this MoU lays the groundwork for a transformative step toward building India’s first rare earth magnet circular economy.
