Bengaluru, Karnataka – October 7th, 2024: The National Abilympic Association of India (NAAI) is hosting the South Zone Regional Abilympics 2024, at St. Joseph’s University in Bengaluru on October 17-18, 2024. This event will spotlight the exceptional vocational talents of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) from across South India, while promoting a more inclusive workforce and highlighting the vast potential within the community. National Abilympic Association of India (NAAI) are hosting the regional competition round for the selection for 11th International Abilympics (2027) to be held in Finland and the South Zone Regional Abilympics in Bengaluru will be a crucial step in the journey toward international recognition and pride.
The two-day event will feature competitions in 15 vocational skill categories such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Crafts, Food, and Services. More than 100 participants are expected to compete, demonstrating their talents and vying for the chance to represent the region at national and international levels.
Dr. Jitender Aggarwal, Secretary General (NAAI) & Founder CEO, Sarthak Educational Trust, urged PwDs from the southern states to join the South Zone Regional Abilympics 2024 in Bengaluru in large numbers, calling it a transformative experience of resilience, creativity, and innovation. “At NAAI, the Abilympics celebrate the unique abilities of Persons with Disabilities, showcasing diverse vocational skills. It’s more than just a competition—it’s a platform that connects participants with employers, opening doors to meaningful employment and sustainable careers.With PwDs comprising over 5% of India’s population, this event emphasizes the importance of skill development as a pathway to employment, self-respect, and independence”, he emphasized.
In addition to the skills competition, the event will host a special conference themed “Empowerment Through Giving: Celebrating Inclusion, Opportunity, and the Joy of Giving”. This inspiring conference will bring together thought leaders, advocates, and industry professionals to discuss strategies for empowering PwDs through innovation, skills development, and employment opportunities.
Supported by key partners like Tata Power and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), the South Zone Regional Abilympics is not only a celebration of talent but also a platform for inclusion, offering PwDs the chance to enhance their skills, build confidence, and gain meaningful employment. India created history at the 10th International Abilympics in Metz, France, in 2023 by securing seven medals with a small 13-member team.
