Chief Minister Reviews Presentations on Major Developmental Projects for Sikkim

New Delhi, September 16: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang chaired a high-level meeting at Mintokgang on Saturday with key officials, including Chief Secretary V B Pathak, ACS R Telang, Home Department and heads and officials of various departments such as Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Buildings & Housing Department, Social Welfare Department, Rural Development Department and Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department. The meeting focused on reviewing several significant developmental projects for the state.

During the meeting, presentations were made on the following projects:

1. Infrastructure Development at Nathula: This project aims to enhance tourism at Nathula by constructing a parking facility for 1,000 vehicles, along with other essential amenities.

2. Global Iconic Tourist Centre at Ganesh Tok: Ganesh Tok will be developed into a world-class tourist hub, featuring panoramic viewpoints, local vendor spaces, dining options, a restaurant, a banquet hall, and areas for events and sports activities. The centre will showcase Sikkim’s unique art and culture, with designs inspired by the state’s topography and ecology, aimed at attracting international visitors.

3. Kanchendzonga Convention Centre at Namli: A state-of-the-art convention centre will be built in Namli, complete with guest houses for VVIPs and VIPs, modern conference rooms, auditoriums, restaurants, a sports complex, and a wedding hall. This facility is intended to host both official and cultural events while promoting local tourism.

4. 500-Bedded Hostel for Working Women in Gangtok: A 500-bedded hostel will be constructed to provide safe and affordable housing for working women in Gangtok. The facility will offer secure accommodations, common areas, and will be operated by women.

5. Mukhyamantri Punarvaas Awas Yojana: This housing scheme focuses on resettlement, likely for individuals displaced by the floods that occurred on October 3-4, 2023.

The projects reflect the state’s commitment to improving infrastructure, enhancing tourism, supporting working women, and addressing housing needs, ultimately contributing to the region’s development and improving the quality of life for its residents.

After reviewing the presentations, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of incorporating Sikkimese aesthetics and cultural elements into these projects to ensure they align with the region’s heritage and identity.
