CM Tamang chairs 4th Edition of the SKM Legislators’ Meeting

New Delhi, Jan 29: The 4th edition of the SKM legislators’ meeting was held at Samman Bhawan, Gangtok, on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang. The meeting was attended by SKM party legislators, Advisors, Political Secretaries, the OSD, and the Press Secretary. It served as a platform for discussing key issues and formulating strategies for the party’s future initiatives.

The Chief Minister presented the agenda and emphasized the importance of celebrating the 13th Foundation Day of the SKM party in a grand and impactful manner across all constituencies. He urged members to actively highlight the party’s achievements and effectively communicate the government’s developmental work to the people of Sikkim during these celebrations.

One of the key concerns raised during the meeting was the unauthorized entry of impermissible individuals into villages and towns. To address this issue, it was decided that stricter monitoring of manpower arriving from outside the state would be introduced. A temporary work permit system would be implemented at every GPU level to safeguard local interests while ensuring the organized management of external workforce deployment.

The Chief Minister also addressed the issue of illegal subletting of trade licenses, reaffirming the government’s commitment to eliminating this practice. He emphasized the need to foster local skill development and enhance manpower utilization, ensuring that employment opportunities were directed toward the people of Sikkim.

Another important topic of discussion was the maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene across the state. The Chief Minister urged all officials and departments to uphold high standards of cleanliness, not only in public spaces but also within government offices. It was emphasized that keeping Sikkim clean remained a vital part of the government’s broader developmental vision.

The meeting also focused on the establishment of a State Planning and Development Board along with constituency-level sister boards. It was informed that while the state-level board would oversee financial planning, monitoring, and development, nine-member committees at the constituency level would focus on localized development and planning initiatives.

Additionally, the Chief Minister shared details about the upcoming pilgrimage to Mahakumbh scheduled for 7th February 2025. It was informed that a delegation of legislators would be undertaking this sacred journey following an invitation from the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji.

Several other crucial matters were discussed during the meeting, including:

  • LT seat reservation,
  • The demand for tribal status for 12 left-out communities of Sikkim,
  • The visit of His Holiness Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorjee to Sikkim, and
  • Preparations for the upcoming delimitation exercise.

The Chief Minister also assured the members that structural appointments within the party organization would be undertaken soon to strengthen its functioning. Additionally, he appealed to all MLAs to work diligently for the people of Sikkim, ensuring that the government’s developmental initiatives reached every corner of the state.

The meeting concluded with members reaffirming their unwavering commitment to Sikkim’s progress. Collectively, they resolved to fulfill the aspirations of the people and drive the state toward a brighter future.
