In the run-up to World Heart Day, the paediatric ward at BM Birla Heart Hospital has been transformed into a gallery of courage. Young children recovering from complex heart surgeries have picked up crayons and paints to express their journey — turning art into a form of healing.
The initiative reflects the hospital’s holistic approach to care, where nurses and caregivers encourage children not only to recover physically but also to find emotional release through creativity. Bright sketches of patched-up hearts, healthy habits, doctors, nurses, and families fill the ward walls — each one carrying the child’s own story of resilience.
Master Aariyan SK (10), who underwent surgery under Dr. Kuntal Roychowdhuri, drew a picture reminding everyone to “care for our heart.” For Master Aryan Bhagat (10), under the care of Dr. Manoj K. Daga, sports became the theme — his artwork showing how games and exercise keep the heart strong. Miss Shweta Devrao Nagrele (12), treated by Dr. Manoj K. Daga, also added her voice with colour, highlighted healthy food for the heart. Miss Nusrat Gazi (9), under Dr. Daga, imagined a heart holding the globe; and Miss Sultana Parvin (12), who underwent minimally invasive surgery with Dr. Daga, drew a reminder of habits that safeguard the heart.
Speaking on the initiative, Supratik DeSarkar, Regional Head – BMB | RBH, said, “Through this initiative, our young patients have found a way to share their journey in a manner that words often cannot capture. Each drawing reflects not only their resilience but also their understanding of what it means to live with a healthy heart. At BM Birla Heart Hospital, we are proud to combine world-class surgical expertise with the highest standards of emotional and rehabilitative support. This initiative is another example of how our team continues to set benchmarks in paediatric cardiac care in India.”
BM Birla Heart Hospital believes that art, care, and compassion together accelerate recovery. By recognising the role of nursing, emotional support, and child-friendly spaces, BM Birla Heart Hospital continues to lead paediatric cardiac care in Eastern India with a holistic vision.
