Empowering MSMEs and Deepening Digital Commerce Across Bharat
New Delhi | April 16th 2025: DigiHaat— the buyer app launched by Nirmit Bharat, a 100% subsidiary of ONDC, the government-backed initiative aimed at democratizing e-commerce — has witnessed exponential growth since its formation in October 2024. The platform has scaled from just 53 orders in November 2024 to over 3 lakh cumulative orders by April 14, 2025; marking a significant milestone in democratizing digital commerce nationwide.
DigiHaat was designed to make digital commerce more inclusive and accessible, and its performance in the past five months is a testament to that vision. The app has successfully onboarded 2 lakh + users and supported 4,727 sellers, a majority of whom are MSMEs, artisans, and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). Its reach spans a wide geographic footprint, now servicing over 2,400 pincodes across metros and India’s tier 2 and tier 3 towns. The platform is enabling buyers from cities like Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, Zirakpur in Punjab, Sopore in Jammu & Kashmir, Siliguri in West Bengal, Lamsang in Manipur, Bhuj, Umbergaon, and Vapi in Gujarat, as well as Mysuru in Karnataka and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.
In terms of consumer behavior, DigiHaat users are making repeat purchases up to three times a month, indicating both retention and trust in the platform. Since launch, the app has generated a gross merchandise value (GMV) of approximately INR 5 crore. Category-wise, the platform has seen strong traction in groceries, food, and essential goods, with over 2.7+ lakh orders in grocery alone, followed by 35,759 orders in food and 2,250 in beauty and personal care, amongst others.
Rahul Vij, Chief Operating Officer, Nirmit Bharat, shared, “DigiHaat was envisioned as a platform that reflects the spirit of India’s digital and entrepreneurial ambition. In just a few months, we’ve seen a remarkable uptake—thanks to the power of ONDC’s open network and the trust of local sellers and buyers. Our mission is to create a level playing field for small businesses and empower every Indian—whether in a metro or a remote pincode—to participate in the digital economy with ease, trust, and transparency. We have realised the power of ONDC and the potential it carries . It’s a movement and I would recommend all sellers and buyer platforms to join it to reap in the benefits of digitalisation.”
With its simplified user interface and a strong focus on enabling local commerce, DigiHaat is rapidly becoming one of the most accessible buyer apps on the ONDC Network. As ONDC continues to strengthen India’s digital commerce backbone, DigiHaat’s early success reinforces the transformative power of public digital infrastructure in unlocking new opportunities for inclusive economic growth.
