Exploring Promising Careers in Allied Healthcare: Seminar on MLT & Optometry Draws Enthusiastic Participation

June, 2025 — The ITM Institute of Health Sciences, a part of ITM Skills University, successfully hosted an insightful seminar titled “Career & Job Opportunities After 12th Science (Without NEET): Focus on MLT & Optometry” on Thursday, June 13, at its Panvel auditorium.

The seminar, which attracted many enthusiastic students and parents, aimed to shed light on exciting and high-demand career paths in the allied healthcare sector, specifically Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) and Optometry, for students who have completed their 12th-grade science without taking the NEET exam.

The session featured two distinguished speakers from ITM’s faculty:

Dr. Ranjana Mhatre, Head of Department – MLT, delivered an engaging talk on the vital role of medical laboratory professionals in modern healthcare. She highlighted how MLTs work behind the scenes to ensure accurate diagnostics and how their work is foundational to patient care. Dr. Nityati Keni, a Department of Optometry faculty member, talked at length about the eye-care sector, the resulting high demand for professional optometrists both within and outside India, and the academic education process were among the topics touched upon.

In both sessions, the focal point was the career opportunities, the international scope, and the long-term growth that these fields could provide. In the same vein, the speakers also disbelieved the popular public understanding of NEET being the main requirement for healthcare careers, thus giving students the go-signal to look leastwise as rewarding career paths in the said industry.

The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, to which students were invited, allowing them to ask faculty members questions about the curriculum structure, internship opportunities, and career outcomes. Many of the students appeared to have gained new knowledge and developed a keen interest in allied health professions. The guests were delighted with the refreshments, music, and a light-hearted celebration that happened after the seminar, all of which made it an informative and memorable event.

Dr. Sankalp Rao, Director of the ITM Institute of Health Sciences, shared his thoughts during the event “The healthcare ecosystem needs not just doctors, but a wide array of skilled professionals who form the backbone of patient care. At ITM, our goal is to empower students with career-ready education in areas like MLT and Optometry, enabling them to make meaningful contributions to the healthcare sector both in India and abroad.”
