Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi

Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Lok Sabha constituency of Rampur in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The Rampur Lok Sabha constituency comprises Assembly constituencies of Suar, Chamraua, Bilaspur, Rampur and Milak (SC).

Ghanshyam is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Over the years, Ghanshyam has represented various parties such as Bharat Kranti Party and Samajwadi Party (SP). Before becoming an MP, Ghanshyam had served as MLC (Member of Legislative Council) in Uttar Pradesh for two terms.

For the 2022 Lok Sabha by-poll in Rampur, it was Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi that was chosen to represent BJP. It was a high prestige battle, as Rampur was considered as a stronghold of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. Ghanshyam also emerged as a formidable rival, as he had good rapport with the people at grassroots level. His earlier experience of working with Samajwadi Party also helped him understand the strategies being deployed by the rival candidate.

Although the odds were against him, Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi managed to win the Rampur constituency. He defeated his nearest rival Mohammad Asim Raza of Samajwadi Party by a margin of more than 45,000 votes. His vote share was 51.96 percent in comparison to 46 percent of the runner-up candidate. Before 2022, Rampur seat was held by Mohammad Azam Khan. Prior to that, the seat was won by BJP’s Dr. Nepal Singh in 2014.

Early Life and Education

Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi was born on May 1967 to Shri Doli Ram Lodhi and Smt. Lal Kaur. He was born in Khairullapur, Rampur, UP.  Ghanshyam has completed his higher secondary schooling. He married Sunita Devi on May 10, 1985. Apart from his political career, Ghanshyam is an agriculturist and businessperson.

Political Career

Ghanshyam has a long political career, spanning around two decades. He had started with BJP, but had later switched to Kalyan Singh’s Bharat Kranti Party. He had contested MLC election from Rampur-Bareilly area in 2004 and won. Later in 2016, he contested again and won as an MLC. However, this time he had contested on Samajwadi Party ticket. In January 2022, Ghanshyam returned to his original party BJP. After winning the 2022 election, Ghanshyam thanked the people of Rampur for their support.
